Transmission won't release drive shaft.
I've dropped the rear and mid sections of my drive shaft, and now I'd like to pull it out of my transmission. I've performed this on a few vehicles, but I've never come across one that didn't slide out. The drive shaft is stuck in the transmission. It's a th400 in a '79 silverado. Ive pulled, twisted and turned, and delicately tried prying it free. I'm open to tips and suggestions. Thank you in advance.

Re: Transmission won't release drive shaft.
If it's a slip yoke connection, it's either corroded or the splines of the slip yoke and/or tail shaft are twisted. I've twisted a yoke bad enough on my nitrous car to need a 3lb sledge to get the drive shaft outta the trans.

Re: Transmission won't release drive shaft.
The TH400 used in the trucks has a bolt in the center of the yoke ;there should be 4 capscrews retaining the ujoint clamps...the same as the companion flange at the rear axle.
The slip yoke part is on your rear driveshaft;be sure to mark the position of the shafts if you split them as they are phased and balanced together. |
Re: Transmission won't release drive shaft.
If its a two piece drive shaft its bolted.
one piece is a slip yoke |
