Costs of Different Engines

I have been thinking about doing a 6.0 swap for a long time now and the time has finally come. I have been going back and forth as to what motor to get. I'm between the LQ4, LQ9, and LS2. I wouldn't mind any of the options but wanted to look at it from a cost perspective. I found an ls2 out of a trailblazer for $3200 and it only has 45,000 miles on it. The only problem with it is the fact that it has a AWD transmission, which I could just take to a trans shop and get them to switch the tailshafts. What prices are people paying for a complete 6.0 swap? If the $3200 price is only a little bit more than what everyone is paying for an LQ4 or LQ9, then I just might jump on that, and I like the fact that I can say I have an ls2 in my truck. Any opinions/options would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Costs of Different Engines

I got my mostly complete LQ4 for 800$. Add in my dbw controls, front acc. and ecu, a huge cam kit, and a built 4l80e and im still under the $3200 pricetag.

03 LQ4 with eveyting but throttl body and one header shiped accrost the country for 1000. That included alt and starter and power steering. Came from maine tho. Was not a pretty motor but cleaning it up and painting everything should make it look great again. 88xxx miles on it.

I paid $2000 for my 2006 LQ4 with 28K miles. That price included shipping from Michigan to Texas. The motor is complete from fan to flexplate along with the A/C compressor, all the accessories, intake, harness, ex manifolds, computer, dbw pedal, etc.

thanks for the help guys, where are you getting your swaps from though? I heard some people are getting them through lqk, for reasonable prices.

Re: Costs of Different Engines

I looked at LKQ quite a bit but they didn't have what I was looking for at the time. I ordered mine from Schram Auto in Michigan. They specialized in pull-outs intended for swaps like ours. They weren't the absolute cheapest, but they had a great selection and were knowledgeable about what was needed and not needed when doing this sort of drive train transplant. Most of the other "salvage yards" I called were happy to sell me an engine, but it was stripped down, not complete like this.

I found mine through car-part, I liked not having to ship the engine and got it with a fire-up and 90day hard part warranty.

try car-part.com

These will mostly be stipped engines, may be worth it looking. Once in a while there will be complete take outs listed.

LQ4s are usually the cheapest (pickups and vans), and a bit more for LQ9s (escalades denalis)

if you're looking for a 6.0 liter specifically....don't forget the '07up (?'06) LY6 gen IV with VVT and L92/LS3 heads.

Re: Costs of Different Engines

The LY6 come with the l92 heads? I was going to do the l92 head swap anyway, but i thought they came only on the 6.2 L
