K/5 4" Lift Qs?
 

Here's the deal...I'm pondering retiring my '91 Suburban 3/4t and using stuff off that on my '85 Jimmy.The 'Burb has a 4" Tuff Country EZ-ride suspension and I'm thinking to swap that and axles to the Jimmy.
So,question #1:The springs are 56" and I wonder how it works putting them on a K/5.Both front and rear hangers need moved,right?
#2: Does that raise it up more because of the front location?The rear is mounted on the straight rail so no change there.I don't want any higher than 4".I'm thinking I might be better just using an axle-flip kit and using the springs on something else.
#3: Do I need to do a slip-yoke eliminator for a 4" lift?I've only done long beds with the NP208 or NP241 and all the shortbeds & K/5s had NP205s.the Jimmy has a 700R4 and the 'Burb has the 4L80E.I figure (at this point) I'll stay with what's in it and do the 4L80E later.

I think just the rear is relocated. Most 4" lifts don't require a lot of mods like the slip yoke eliminated because they usually keep the spring pin point the same which moves the axle to the front. But like anything else aftermarket, YMMV!

Thanks Mike.I just wasn't sure on the longer springs if the extra length was to the rear only or divided to keep the axle about centered.It would be easier if I had the springs pulled off.It's kinda hard to check now.
On the slip yoke question,I wondered if the steeper angle on a shorter wheelbase made the difference since the tail housing/slip yoke makes for a longer unit.Also,having the 700r4 adds to overall length.I guess I'll just go for it.I don't plan to wheel it too hard and 4" won't change it in too big of a way.

Anyone with this set-up care to chime in?

The 56" springs I have are the same length as my 52" springs from the front to the center pin. The difference in length is from the center pin to the back of the spring. Check yours with a tape just to be sure. Looks like you will have to relocate the back hangers. I just put in a set of 64" springs on the back of my 70 chevy and I don't think you will have any problems installing the 56" springs on yours. If you are considering doing a shackle flip, you could always do the 56" springs too and use one of the longer shackles that are available. I'm sure that Offroad Design sells a longer shackle for that set up. I hope that answers your question.

Yeah it does and thanks a lot...not that I was doubting Mike :cool:.It's hard to be real accurate with the springs on the trucks.I know going longer on the front gives a bit of lift and if the rears were longer to the front 1/2 at all it would give some additional lift due to the drop of the frame.I've never been there/done that and don't want any surprises leaving things "up in the air" once under way.
