newb block question!

:waah:hello everyone i was hoping to get some opinions on my engine block.i have a 66 short fleet with original 283.i have been kicking the can around this one for a while and decided that i want to build it!i know i know put in a 350!anyway i pulled the heads off and i measured the holes and it seems that it is already 60 over....bummer!!there dosent seem to be a ridge formed and the walls still look crosshatched im thinking it was rebuit not that long ago.dont know for sure!sorry about the long winded thred but do you think this would be a buildable block or should i cry a bit and look for something else?obviously i guess i would have to sonic test the block.any experienced opinions would be appreciated.thanks dan!

If there`s no pitting in the cylinders, ( you didn`t say what condition it was sitting in ) I`d just check bearings replace gaskets and run it til you find a 350. just my opinion.

thanks rich!it dosent seem to be pitted.actually ran pretty good before pulling it.smoked on start up.trying to stay away from the whole 350 thing.just trying to figure out if its worth building a 60 over block thanks dan

Smokng on startup usally means valve guides, its your choice if you want to put the money in it, if your thinking 350 I`d just save my pennies and just keep it going til then. A 60 over 283 shold be fine but its at its limit, no more room to do anything with it.

Put some 305 HO heads on it.

what was the bore measurement you got? If it was truly .060" over the pistons "should" be marked as such.

Maybe it has a different block with 283 heads?
