Hello! Need some "cultural" training!
I'm new to this forum! I need some pointers on how and where to post things here - I don't want to accidentally offend anybody. I know that this type of community generally has a "code of conduct", often unwritten, that new members usually violate by accident. Can anyone direct me to a good starting place that I can use to read up on expected behavior on the forum?
(edit) I have read the announcements for the boiler-plate rules. I'm looking for some of the unwritten code! ;-) |
Re: Hello! Need some "cultural" training!
Hey there. Seems to be simple. Treat people with respect in your posts, think before posting, just simple common courtesey. Nothing to it.

Re: Hello! Need some "cultural" training!
It's mostly about logic. You make you post in the place it belongs. Some questions may apply to more than one place. In that case, take your best guess and if it seems like it may be better somewhere else, just PM a moderator or simply hit the "report post" icon and ask to have it moved. Don't make a new post in the second place. The report post button is a little red and white triangle below your user-name in every post.

Be careful when stating an opinion, especially where it concerns any cosmetic aspects of a build, and definitely stay away from politics.

Re: Hello! Need some "cultural" training!
Keep it family friendly, lotta younger family members are checking out the board while their parents are online here.

Re: Hello! Need some "cultural" training!
The two best guidelines I can think of are
1.Follow the Golden rule(Treat people the way you want to be treated) 2.Follow Moms rule(If you don't have something nice to say...... don't say nuttin'" Keep in mind that different people are offended by different things. For instance I once knew a guy who was big into porn and vocal about it.He was very offended by seeing someone smoke a ciggarette. Also, don't take stuff to personally, most of us are like guys,we give each other a good natured hard time as a matter of course. If some of these guys weren't that way I would think they were mad at me. |
Re: Hello! Need some "cultural" training!
All great advice so far, but nobody let you in on the most important rule, it is mandatory to post pictures in your threads. Just kidding, but we do love pictures around here. Welcome to the best truck board in the world!

Re: Hello! Need some "cultural" training!
Try to take some replies with a grain of salt, good folks here as opposed to some other forums.
Oh, and don't dis the GMC's. :) |
Re: Hello! Need some "cultural" training!
Welcome to the board, feel free to make yourself at home, and thank you for supporting the board.
Mainly, enjoy the board. Treat others with respect within your posts. If you have a question, don't hesitate to ask one of the Mods or fellow members. If you're looking for a specific topic, use the search tool located at the top right within each board on the site. Be sure to check out the regional section of the board as we have some great members located in Iowa as well as the Midwest in general. They often have get togethers and meet at various shows/meets throughout the region. Offer your expertise where you can. And have fun! The board offers a unique environment compared to other boards on the net as we keep it family friendly and for those who love our hobby. Cheers! Nate |

Re: Hello! Need some "cultural" training!
This is a pretty laid back family friendly forum for the most part. As always there are a couple of subjects you really should avoid. As mentioned Politics and Religion are taboo, but a couple more come to mind. The short wheel base vs long wheel base is a good one, then there the cut dash for a new style radio debacle. Another good one is " El Camino, truck or car?" and we can't forget small back window or large has more value dilemma.
Just stay neutral and you should be fine...:) |
Re: Hello! Need some "cultural" training!
You forgot the ever classic GMCs are sexier than Chevys.. which although is true, is a pissing match waiting to happen ;)

Funny stuff right there Liz As mentioned, respect is the biggest thing on this board. The only other thing you will find that rubs people the wrong way is asking a question that is asked a million times....so try to use the search feature or run through all the FAQ's before asking if possible. I have printed off at least 10 FAQ's to use during disassembly/assembly on my last two projects. Look under Krue's index thread on the FAQ forum first. And WELCOME!!! :metal: |

Shouldn't this be in General Discussion :haha:
I like to make jokes. Most of the time I'm the only one that "gets" them  Welcome from SC :D |

Welcome to the board!
Perfect example, and how appropriate for the date. Think like you are sitting at the Thanksgiving table with your family, and there are 4 generations of family sitting with you. Everyone is happy to be sitting there at the table with you, and ready to partake in the whole purpose of sitting at said table. But everyone sitting there with you has many differing opinions of current affairs, religion, politics, and the proper use of language. So, to avoid heartburn... Need I say more ;) |

:welcoem: from another Iowa boy... My son lives in Polk City, a short distance from Caseys. I get up that way every once in a while so maybe we can get together and have coffee or a soda when I'm up there. Here is the IOWA forum. It is a little slow during the winter months but you might check it every once in a while... We just had a get together at DieselWrenchers place in Mitchellville a while back. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/f...prune=30&f=158 LockDoc |
