Hoping to buy back first truck in the AM-wish me luck
My First truck was a 1964 GMC suburban. 305 V6/2 speed powerglide. It was teal green and white, and it had a really nice patina. (the paint was original and worn-beautiful). But me, I was young and stupid, and didnt see that. I didnt see how rare these were, and to have one with a 305 V6 that ran well (the original) and all that....man it was cool. Dad gave it to me, him and mom were divorced and I was living with mom. He gave it to me but didnt help me out on it, I mean it ran but you know, It needed inspection and registration and all that....He kinda just dropped it off and left it at that. So a kid with no money or job, I focused on looks.....when I couldve left it alone.
Eventually primered it orange and stuff....and then a rod started knocking in the engine, spun a bearing. Anyways, Got a newer truck and lost interest in this. Its hard to do a frame up resto with no experience and no money. Well now things are different. I've got several custom trucks under my belt, got a good paying career and all that....The '01 sits in the garage and yall have seen the progress I've made on the '86....I started thinking about that old 64 the other day. I could really do it some justice, weld up all the rust, paint it satin teal and white (what it came with) put some baby moons on it to roll on, have the paint distressed and give it that worn patina and let it rust a little...and have something like "Boudreauxs Garage" painted on the door (my name).... I was very happy to hear that dad still had the motor in the yard under a tarp, it didnt go with the truck. I would LOVE to tear it down, have the machinist fix what needs fixin, and put her back in the burb. Its not a high compression motor by any means, but you can cruise 70 all day long. It would have the originality....I'd probably go with a 700r for that overdrive. Anyways, I'm getting really excited. I sold it years ago. Then I heard that guy sold it, and then my dad and my uncle told me they saw it sitting under a shed out on a country road about 30 miles from my house. Tomorrow, with my uncle in the passenger seat, I am riding up there, and if he still has it, I'm going to try to buy it back! If he doesnt, I'll get ahold of whoever does! Hopefully it hasnt been scrapped I could do this thing justice REAL quick guys, I am praying he still has it and will sell. Heres a pic (the only one I have) of the truck after I primered it. hood off. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...o/77bc3532.jpg And heres a pic of the paint mine had when I got it. This is exactly what my suburban looked like when I got it, the paint I mean. Its 2wd and all, and the paint was old, but there. Thats what it would look like. I always loved the front end it had on it. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...oudro/burb.jpg |
Re: Hoping to buy back first truck in the AM-wish me luck
Best of luck to ya. I have kept my first and even though it is in a million pieces it will be one of the last to sell if I ever have to. If I could I would keep every single vehicle I have ever owned but thats me and I get too attached.

Re: Hoping to buy back first truck in the AM-wish me luck
Wow, looking like lots of work. Anything for a first though.

Re: Hoping to buy back first truck in the AM-wish me luck
Yeah, but I've got plenty of experience in rebuilding motors so it would be a fun project.

Re: Hoping to buy back first truck in the AM-wish me luck
As someone who has seen his 305 under 9 ft. of salty water. I'm hear to tell you you can bring them back yo life. You'll probaly need to have them sep up a the next oversize pistons just so you can get good skin. Kanter and EGGE both have .20, .40, and .60 oversie pistons. A complete rebuild kit for the 405 will run you $1100. Been there- done that.
IF not a member, join Jolly Goodfellows 60-66 GMC Club, we have a national website and a yahoo BB. Many members have spare parts laying around and will be willing to help. I too love the V-6 as you can see by my avitar and links. http://www.6066gmcguy.org/ http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/6066_GMC_Truck/ |
Re: Hoping to buy back first truck in the AM-wish me luck

Re: Hoping to buy back first truck in the AM-wish me luck
Thanks for the links. I went out there but didnt look like anyone was home, but it was a real big place and you could see a lot of old cars and trucks out in the field....
The shed by the road where my uncle saw the suburban once now houses a falcon and a real old pickup.....I'm gonna try back this afternoon and if no answer then tomorrow.... |
Re: Hoping to buy back first truck in the AM-wish me luck
Well some good news....drove out there again, the fella was there, but said he traded my 64 off about 4 years ago for a 58 willys coupe or something, then later sold that at a swap meet.
He tried to find the guys card (he has some sort of pressure washing biz on the side) but couldnt find it. He gave me his number and told me to call him monday evening and see if he had found the card. Said the guy lives around baytown and he could almost draw me a map of how to get there. Said hes pretty sure the guy hasnt done anything with it. So I have a chance! I'm trying to be patient, but tomorrow I think I'll look up all the pressure wash biz's in that town and call em all and see who has a 64 GMC suburban LOL, sometimes you have to do crazy things, I'm treating this as a murder investigation, follow EVERY lead! IF I can find it, I'll offer the guy the $300 we sold it for, but I'm willing to go to $1,000 if need be....really with no motor or trans and all the window frames rotted out its worth that |
Re: Hoping to buy back first truck in the AM-wish me luck
1 low,
Don't let on that you're anxious, he might try to hold out for more money. BTW IF the cab is as bad as you say, You might wanted to consider a replacement? |
Re: Hoping to buy back first truck in the AM-wish me luck
Well it isn't the can that's rotted out I meant, it's just around the window frames....but I got a mig that says it can be fixed lol! It's the side windows that were in need of help. The rear sides

Re: Hoping to buy back first truck in the AM-wish me luck
Well remember I said the guy gave me sketchy directions to the place my 64 was supposed to be? He said in atascosita right before you get to the lake (lake Houston I assumed) take a right at the light and on the left there's a trailer park.....that's all I got.
So at about 9:30pm I got. A wild hair, pulled the '01 out of the garage and headed out. Found the trailer park (74 miles from my house lol) and drove around in there looking.....never did see it. Now I'm sitting in liberty at the whataburger having a breakfast sandwich...... At least I know where it WAS....need to find out what trailer it was. Guy said it was like the fourth or fifth on the right. But who knows, how long do people stay in one place sometimes? That was 4 years ago. Could be anywhere now. Hopefully the guy still lives there and can tell me what happened to it so I can make the next move. If he's moved then all is lost. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Hoping to buy back first truck in the AM-wish me luck
hopefully the guy isn't reading this thread and changing locations every 12 hrs to keep you on your toes... (you did call it a murder investigation).
Ha! Best of luck tracking it down, after all this, you'll never let it go. Great thread, I'm following along, cheering you on! |

Re: Hoping to buy back first truck in the AM-wish me luck
Thanks for the link guys, I'll see if I can find the VIN!
|
Re: Hoping to buy back first truck in the AM-wish me luck
with the vin you can check carfax to get a name.
With a name you can put it into the county apprasiers site and find an address of a home if they own one. |
Re: Hoping to buy back first truck in the AM-wish me luck
You may have an old tag receipt, a receipt from a garage you may have bought tires from, the bill of sale, or even an old parking ticket laying around somewhere that has your tag# or VIN # printed on it.
