mystery engine 250, 292?

Hi All:

In our project, the SPID on the truck (1967) says it has a 292 inline 6. It DOES have an inline 6. After taking it apart, engine cylinders (measured with a regular dial caliper) measure 3.915 diameter. Stroke 3.5 +/- (sort of measured from cylinder wear marks, etc. not a great measurement yet, and crank is already off), which would go along with this being a later year 250 bored out .030. (The engine casting is 328576, which on the net points to a 68+ 250 CID.)

For parts, etc., are we safe to conclude it is a 68 250, bored once?

(Oh yes...one more factoid...One piston appears to be original size, but cylinder it came out of is oversize.)

Thanks!

Mark

When I'm trying to tell 250 from 292 the easy tell is the fuel pump location.

Fuel pump forward of engine mount = 250

Fuel pump aft of engine mount = 292

The easy way to tell for me is by the side covers. On the 250 they are about 4" tall and on the 292 they are about 6" tall.

Confirmed several ways that it is a 250. Found cracked cylinder when took apart "for fun".

Do any of you know if a 93 350 4 bolt will fit OK in the 67 c10 (it may be what we try to replace it with). Any issues?

Thanks for all the help!

You will need to swap out the six cyl engine frame mounts for a pair of V-8 ones and probably change the radiator out for a three core one.
