Auto to Manual swap question
 

A question for you guys...........I am just about to start converting my 82' over to manual. Will I have to change the whole assembly that bolts to firewall or can I just swap in the new clutch / brake pedals which i picked up from Krazy Ray last year? I have a local guy that has the complete assembly but, I don't feel like dropping the $ 60 bucks for it

Should not be that hard. It's just the pre planning that takes the most time. I hope it is just pull and replace. It is hard as hell to find manual parts these days. Every truck you see @ the pick and pull is an automatic

I know and everything new these days seems to be an auto call me crazy but i prefer manual

ECU PIRATE, you've been holding onto that manual for awhile, lol.

Actually, I was using your Muncie thread to get to the forums for a bit, cause it was one I bookmarked on my browser. Will be doing the same swap as you very soon also, if you're still planning to use the Muncie. My Turbo 350 has about bit the dust, and I'm sick of the nasty slushbox.

There is another member here who modified his manual clutch pedal to use a hydraulic, which is what I will be doing, and he might know some more info about if the auto units can be adapted, but I haven't removed my automatic one yet, to swap in the pedal assembly, it will be about a week or two before I get to mine.

You might have some driveshaft length issues, especially if your running a long tail Turbo 350 in a longbed. I scored a 4 door longbed stock 2 piece shaft to cut down for mine. Single driveshafts don't want to work so well once they get too long, or so I have read.

Youre right about hard to find manual parts, I was hoping to score the hydraulic pedal setup, but there aren't even any manual pedal assemblys on Ebay, let alone the hydraulic units.

Thanks Dru. I am sure it was a short tail TH350 that came in there orginally. The Muncie whould be the same length as a Saginaw which is the same if memory serves me correct, as a TH350 short tail. And yes, I have been holding onto this for a while. I was 1st going to do the swap in my Blazer but now, it is going in the short bed. Last time I was at my local pick and pull by Quantico Marine Corps Base, the had a 87' with a service body with the hydraulic set up in it. That was over the summer.

If anyone has an answer, let me know. I know there are more of you out there that want to do this swap.................

Maybe we can get Keith Seymore to chime in. I am sure he knows the answer. F GM went through the trouble of making the cabs and frames work with autos and manuals, buckets and bench seats, I an sure they did the same with the p

To be honest, I don't recall for sure....

I don't remember there being anything unique with the cab bracketry/column support, and that the different pedals just slide up in there with the appropriate spacer (on the through bolt/pivot bolt).

I wouldn't bet my life on it, but I'd start there.

Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just the answer I wanted to hear..................I am still going to pick up another set up in the next couple of weeks to have one as an extra for the next build.
