Should go to smaller wheels?

I get a lot of compliments on these wheels (22") but have never been a 'Big' wheel guy. Guess I still prefer the classic styles from my youth. Looking for opinions. Thinking about 17" max Cragar SS or similar. What do you think? What size tire would I need to still fill the wells?

Re: Should go to smaller wheels?

Hello!

I would go with a 17x8 front with a 25550R17 and 17x9.5 rear with a 27550R17. Not knowing how much the truck is lowered thats what I recommend. If you would give the tire sizes you have now I can make a better recommendation. Be careful when you order a set of wheels and choose the backspace properly. Let me know I will be glad to help out.

Perry

Agreed. Cragars, Torque Thrusts or Slots would look great. TTO's with the cast looking centers would really look sweet with that burgundy paint, that's what I used on my '69 Camaro.

Old School trucks and cars look great with a lot of rubber sidewall and 15, 16 or 17 inch rims.

Old School

i'm with ya - torque thrusts would be my choice - I'm not a big fan of big wheels either, they make the truck look like a toy.

Truck was lowered when I bought it so not sure of drop. Probably 3/5 but may be 4/6. Front tires are 265/35R22 and rear are 305/40R22. I agree...more tire & less wheel. I have some old 15" outlaw II's with brand new center caps in the box. I've thought of polishing them or painting them to match the truck? I

NO! Don't get rid of your wheels! Your truck looks unreal right now and I'm sure you could spend your money elsewhere.

I agree with the idea of going to a smaller wheel. But then again, I also like while letters.

i think the big wheels like that is the single most detremental addition to these trucks that can b made

I think either style looks good (22's or 17's), I think it has more to do with your own taste. So go with what you like.

Re: Should go to smaller wheels?

I would go smaller in a heartbeat. If you already have the other wheels, clean them up, put them on and see the difference. That may help you decide. Your truck would look with bigs and littles...(15x10 rear, 15x7 fronts) Just my opinion.

Re: Should go to smaller wheels?

My opinion, timeless classic wheel design in a 17 inch size, with some sidewall to compensate. I have 17x8 Torq-thrust Originals on Ethel with 255/50/17 in the front and 275/60/17 in the back.

i dont think it is the size as much as the style of the wheels, i think 20's look good on these trucks if they are the right style of wheels !!

X2

Any size can look good or bad, it depends on the style. When I bought 22's for my tahoe it took forever to find some I liked because so many of them are fugly.

I Think more wheel design over size is what would make the difference on your truck. 20's in any of the classic style wheels would make that truck look amazing.

A polished 20" Torque thrust 2 would look slick. Modern and classic! Can't go wrong.

What he said .... when your wheels look like the slicer-dicer blade on a Veg-O-Matic then you know you have gone horribly wrong.

Thanks for all the feed back! Think I'll put the old wheels on this weekend to see how the 15" wheels look. Definitely going to switch to a more classic design wheel.

FYI!

Here some specs for your tire size consideration.

26535R22 has an O.D. 29.3"
30540R22 has an O.D. 31.5"

25560R17 has an O.D. 29.1" for a 17x8
27560R17 has an O.D. 30.0" for a 17x9.5

The trucks level as it looks in the pics and the only thing you might see if you go to a different tire package is that the 22" on the rear is really tall and if not careful your truck could look to low in the rear with a different size.

How is the truck lowered in the rear? See if the coil rear is cut or if its a leaf spring count how many leafs...

Re: Should go to smaller wheels?

I'm just going to use them to see how they fill the wheel wells. Then I'll probably go with something in the 15-17" range but with a more classic, old school style. Maybe find someone locally willing to trade or sell these to finance new ones.
