starter problems

When the starter turns it will hardly turn the engine (I have a charged battery) It kinda stops and goes and the negative battery cable jumps around while cranking. The battery cables also get very hot. Does this sound like battery, battery cables, or starter. I'm going to test the starter right now so we'll see. What do you guys think.

d00d! new cable time!

i bet if you were to do a voltage drop test you would find that there is some major resistance in your battery lines.

while your at it, clean up your starter ground.

should solve your problems

Re: starter problems

I figured it out. The starter was drawing too much current causing the cables to heat up. It was kinda funny, when the guy put it in the testing machine at the parts store it smoked em' all out of the back room. Anyways the cables don't get hot anymore but I'll probably replace them just for good measure.

could be your starter motor starting to go unless you replaced it already

Re: starter problems

I already replaced it. $45 and a lifetime warranty. Figured why not, but I did get it at schucks or kragen or whatever they call themselves so it'll probably croak in a month. We'll see.
