Exhaust routing pics

i need some pics of how you guys ran your pipes over/under the transmission crossmember. i have long tube headers on my 2wd and they look to come out at a tricky angle towards the crossmember. also any pics of x pipes would be sweet too

I have a 3 in x pipe system from pypes and long tube headers all I did was take a U shaped pipe cut it in the middle and made a _/--- shaped tube kinda like an odd S and it works great otherwise I'm going to drop the trans crossmember and either make it hollow or notch it to match the other side I can take pics if you like

On my 82 with 3" duals, one pipe went over the cross member and the other went pretty much straight under it. It wasn't real bad... but again I wasn't real concerned with looks though it did come off a "show" truck... sorry no pics.

that's what i'm thinking i'll have to do, one pipe over and the other under the crossmember. just as long as the pipes aren't touching anything lol that's what i'm fighting with right now...

I am building a new crossmember out of 2x3 tubing so I can run both pipes above it. The over/under thing drives me crazy.

Question for you--how in the heck do you have access to your starter? I'd like a similar set-up but just can't see how the starter fits through there with the pipe in the way.

Maybe try an older double hump crossmember? That's what i have for mine. It will go on when I re-do the exhaust. It was $15 from a junkyard. I got it off an old Big10 or Heavy Half.

It "just" fits/slids out...manifolds not headers

that's what i'm thinking...willl it bolt right up? and will it fit with a 700r4 which i plan to swap in the near future

Re: Exhaust routing pics

Even with long tube headers the starter just barely slid out. I have heard of some people having to unbolt the headers from the engine to get enough room. I did not have a problem though. Just had to move it around a bit until it was in the right position.

that's my same question....if so...I'll be going to find one...

Justins76 12-10-2010 12:15 PM

Re: Exhaust routing pics

It will fit on the 700r4 but you have to drill holes in the frame because the crossmember sits farther back with a 700r4 compared to the stock th350.
