72 c/20 "The Orange Machine 3"
http://s786.photobucket.com/albums/yy144/ditchman24/
A work in progress. Almost ready to back to the paint booth. What do you guys think? |
Re: 72 c/20 "The Orange Machine 3"
Looking good. Is that rubber in between the steel plates or is it steel plates? It looks good in there.
|
Re: 72 c/20 "The Orange Machine 3"
It's a material simmilar to a plastic cutting board, solid with a little give. Hopefully it has enough give that my little cummins will not shake it's way out of the frame.
|
Re: 72 c/20 "The Orange Machine 3"
Hopefully it doesn't crack near the bolt hole and fall out causing the engine to fall down. I'd try to find a rubber or poly bushing if you can.
|
Re: 72 c/20 "The Orange Machine 3"
nice progress!
|
Re: 72 c/20 "The Orange Machine 3"
I think I'll find out if it going to be too stiff after the first few miles of running. I don't have much room between the fromt crossmember and the harmonic ballancer. I don't want it to settel over time and cause me porblems down the road.
|
Re: 72 c/20 "The Orange Machine 3"
Added pictures of it and some others with the fornt clip set on. starting to look like a turck again.
|
Re: 72 c/20 "The Orange Machine 3"
One other thing I thought about, On your brackets that bolt to your block, do you have any support under that? If not I would add something to help keep that plate from sagging. Over time they will bend due to the weight. My brother's truck was set up like that and the mounts bowed more than 1 1/2" over 2 years.
|
Re: 72 c/20 "The Orange Machine 3"
there is a gusset under the top angle on the block but it is also a 1/2" thick peice of steel, I don't think that it will bow any.
|
Re: 72 c/20 "The Orange Machine 3"
Think again, his was 1/2" too, and it did. Think of 1100lbs bouncing when you hit bumps. I just scrapped the cob mess the other guy put in his truck and built new ones. If you have gussets, you should be ok.

Re: 72 c/20 "The Orange Machine 3"
It is coming along very nice. What work do you have done to the engine? I see you got a fluidampr, are you planning on cranking it hard?
|
Re: 72 c/20 "The Orange Machine 3"
bored .20 over, custom ground cam, hd push rods, main and head studs, fire ringed head, ballanced to 5000 rpm. (not much) Might be a little overkill for the little ve pump but a p-pump is in the works for the future.
|
Re: 72 c/20 "The Orange Machine 3"
What turbo, or turbos are you going with? Any pump work done to the VE?
|
Re: 72 c/20 "The Orange Machine 3"
Not sure what turbo I will be running but I will try to max out the pump.

Re: 72 c/20 "The Orange Machine 3"
A few picture of it in its current state.

Re: 72 c/20 "The Orange Machine 3"
I know that I am doing this backwards from everyone else but here is my build thread. I don't have any pictures of the truck before taredown, or durring, because they were on another computer that crashed. So I will start from the first picture I have and try to explain things from there.
|
Re: 72 c/20 "The Orange Machine 3"
The truck came to me after buying it from my grandfathers estate. I had been trying to buy it from him since I was 16 years old. It was not in that good of shape then, nor was it when I got it. When I bought it it was a faded metalic blue, that was flaking off. It also had a 74 1 ton box and duelly spacers on the rear. I did not like the look so I decided that in the given state of the truck I would do a full resto on it.
The computer that had all the before and durring pictures of tare down decided to stop working, so, this is where I can start. pictures of the cab... Re: 72 c/20 "The Orange Machine 3"
I don't have any of the under side but, there was not much for cross members left either. Witch leads me to the decision of installing a new floor pan. I did not do any of the paint or body work because of the lack of knowhow. So off to the bodyman I go.
floor cut out. And new back in |
Re: 72 c/20 "The Orange Machine 3"
If you look in the back of the glove box you can see where my grandfather made room with a hammer for his Vintage Air conditioner. I think that it was a rear mount air out of a convertion van from the 80's. Fan head unit filled the glove box and the hoses ran throught the firewall to the evap. and condenssor. It was quite the air kit.
