79 Carb question

He guys, I got a 79 GMC with the original quadrajet carb. When warmed up, I seem to have a bog or something when I take off. Seems to just be gutless. Once I get up to like 1,750 Rpms it seems to go away and run fine.

Just wondering if its that accelator pump? I have a quadrajet that I could rebuild, or and a edelbrock 600 that I could throw on. The only thing is its my daily driver and its -15 out. Just wondering what you guys suggest. Either throwing on that edelbrock, rebuild that quadrajet, or if something is just out of adjustment. Thanks for your time!

Re: 79 Carb question

Check the choke. It's probably not operating right. If it were the accelerator pump, it would do it every time you pushed on the gas; not just at low rpm's. Mine does the same thing though; the whole engine is totally gutless with my q-jet on it. But with my Edelbrock 650 it was perfectly fine. I think it's just the carb; I never have liked the q-jets, and mine is professionally rebuilt, too.

Re: 79 Carb question

Your secondary air valve is set too loose. Causes a lean bog till you get up in rpm.
Here's a link for the best carb ever built.
