I have been wondering what this is on the driver's side of my engine block? I know it's not the water temp sensor. This came out of an 81' LWB with factory gauges.

Engine coolant temperature sending unit for the gauge.

I second that its a coolant temp sender for an electric gauge

yes, you can use the same hole if your replacing the original guage
