Thorbecke Brothers ball joint removal input HELP!

I'm needing some input/opinion/ideas on removeing the ball joints on a set of TB control arms. Need to take them apart for powder coat. I'm not sure how to go about pressing them out since the bottom of the cup is cut at a angle. I don't see how a typical BJ press would work because of the bevel cut. I also have a 20 ton upright press, should I just try and keep it level(prop it up on the short side) or ??????????

Do you have the little cup things from the bj tool? Or some DOM tubing that fit inside the balll joint cup? Find something that fits inside, and is taller than the length of the balljoint and press down on the arm. Just be careful that it doesnt start pushing at an angle, but it should take too much force to get those out

I've got the proper stuff to push it out with. It's just that i don't see anyway to keep it level. It's going to push at an angle. I'm going to give it another try tomorrow night when I have some time.

Sorry i wasnt clear. I mean push down on the arm, not on the cup area. The cup is at an angle, but maybe placing a piece of metal across the arm and something to lift up the other side of the arm will do the trick

Good idea. I might be able to clamp down the arm and keep the cup level.

Thanks,

Got the BJ's removed. Ended up just pressing them strait out. I just used a plate to set/support the small side to keep it level. Only had the one set of press plates that the press came with. I picked up a bunch more stuff to use with it sunday. Just needed then right height plate to keep it level.

Thanks for the help,
