86 1ton fuel tank?

Do any of you guys know of a company I can get alot larger fuel tank for my 86 1 ton chevy? It has a 454 and single tank and I have no range for driving. Its like 16 gallons I believe.

truck should have a 20 gallon tank, why not just install a second tank?

I think the truck came with two tanks but it dosnt have the second one on it. I just bought this thing and it runs like a scalded dog just cant go more than 110 miles without worrying about gas. I have to go and do some work on it today and Ill see what it would take to put duels on it again. It has the switch inside the cab but no tank.

I dont know how motivated you are to install a second tank and go through the trouble of replacing the dash switch and the switching valve on the frame. But you could always do a blazer style tank at the rear of the truck and keep the extra stuff to a minimum. I know there are a lot of guys on the forum here that have done exactly that, most have excellent pics and info on it. Then you could get up to a 40 gal tank which would help out your range a lot.
I have just gone through and got both tanks working on my 454tbi crew cab, and I had to figure out the wiring because the PO had chopped the harness up so bad. Hopefully that isnt the case with your truck. Good luck with the project.

you can get the mounts and the larger tank on there on each side.. advance was cheaper when i did this kind of thing a year or so ago

I dont know if I can put a tank in the back cause of the dump bed. I am going to load it on a trailer if I can find the weight of it somewhere to make sure Im not overloading it. Once I get it home then I can hunt around on it.

the problem with larger tanks on a dump truck are you already have tight quarters with mufflers and hydraulic resevoirs, etc. Blazer tank may or may not be feasible, depends on mounting of other stuff involved. Here's how mine K30 dump is, my C30 dump is a little different.

if you got a dump bed on it it would be an easy job hanging another saddle tank on it and all the hole should already be there

and gm72k10 nice kink in your radiator hose you may want to fix that because the gas will eat at that type of hose

That radiator hose is a temp until the real filler neck is put on, you can also see I'm missing a muffler on the driver side. Work in progress. That pic was taken right before the dump body was put on.

That is a useful little bit of info about the dump bed. Now knowing that, I would also say another saddle tank is the way to go. It shouldn't be to hard to find a donor truck that has two 20 gallon tanks on it. I would definitely go ahead and replace the dash switch and the switching valve while doing the second tank. It would save a lot of heartache down the road.
