Stripping LS parts truck... how much of the wiring do I need?
 

I bought a 2002 1500HD for the drivetrain. I'm stripping it down right now but I'm not sure how many harnesses/wires I need to keep. Obviously the harness connected to the engine/pcm, but do I start pulling the wires that run under both sides of the truck and the bundle heading under the dash?

So I guess it has a LQ4 and 4L80e? My guess is you'd need the harnesses that connect to the motor, the trans, and if you want to retrofit the gauges or keep the OBD port you'll need the dash harness.

As far as body or interior harnesses...not sure why you'd need them?

I would pull it all just to have for a "just in case" but thats just me. I always seem to not get enough stuff when i part one out and like to have more than i need rather than wish i had it after i hauled it off.

Thats what I had the guy I got my motor from do........but now I have about 25 feet of harness to sort through:lol:

:lol: ya it can get confusing really fast. I need to find one for an '07 one of these days but its on the back burner for now..

its good you got it all there. you'll need all the sensor connector and pcm connectors. the big bulk head connectors that go to the fuse block aren't neccessery unless you are using the oem fuse block. the dlc under the dash you can just cut that out of the dash harness and then just reattach it to your harness once its in the truck.

Ok, so don't bother chasing the cab harness. Just remove the obd2 connector from under the dash and rewire it in the new truck. That's what I figured... same goes for fuel pump wires, fan wires etc just have to run new wire from the PCM. Good to know, saves me a ton of work.

All I got was the engine/trans harness with both the TCM and PCM. It all came on a pallet. All I had to get was the DLC connector, fuse block and accelerator pedal connector. I got them from current performance for a really good price. After that just rip and tear! Just make sure you label all the connectors with tape so you know where they go.
