Power Steering Problem
 

I know there is an S-10 forum but this board gets lots more traffice so I'm going to post here.

I have a 2000 S-10 that my boy has at college. He called the other day with a power steering issue. I told him to add fluid, which he did, but he said the next day it was all gone.

Tonight, he came home and I took a look. There is no sign of a huge leak, no puddles on the ground, etc. I put fluid in -- it was empty -- and had him start it up. As soon as he did, all the fluid drained out of the reservoir. I added more fluid until some fluid until the reservoir was about half full. Then when he shut the motor off, fluid started backing up. It did not overflow.

Could he have just run it out of fluid?

Any ideas?

There is no "run out"... It isn't consumed...
It is leaking somewhere... If no puddles are forming, I suspect a hose or fitting leak that is is only leaking at high pressure!

I would fill it and have him turn the wheel from lock to lock a few times and check around the high pressure hose.

But do so carefully.... A tiny stream of high pressure hydrolic fluid can pierce the skin... And wear eye protection!
