Drop Spring Length ?
My buddy has a stock height 72 c10 and he found a guy that has a set of drop springs for sale. Only problem is, he does'nt know what drop the springs give. He said the front springs are 10 and 3/4 inches long and the rears are 8 and 1/4 inches. Can someone please tell me how much drop these springs give?

Re: Drop Spring Length ?
Are the springs made for the 67-87 trucks?
88-98? 99-06? It's going to be hard to tell,... just using the length. |
Re: Drop Spring Length ?
I believe the springs are for 67-87. Seems like I remember reading that stock height rear springs are 13 inches (uninstalled) If so, that would put the rear at about a 5 inch drop if I'm right on that.
Does anyone have a set of drop springs you could measure for me? And tell me X length spring for X amount of drop and that way I can compare lengths and figure out about how much drop these give? |
Re: Drop Spring Length ?
you can't really measure the height of a coil spring and it correlate directly with the amount of drop.
the coil "rate" has a lot to do with the amount of drop a spring will give, in other words the amount the spring "squishes" once the weight of the truck is applied varies from one maker to others depending on the diameter/size of the round bar used to make the spring ... and even the annealled state of the material can have an affect on the amount of drop. |
Re: Drop Spring Length ?
Shane is correct.
I had a set of 2" drop springs that were the same height as a different brand of 3" drop springs. (un-installed height) |
Re: Drop Spring Length ?
Thanks for your replies. I guess I thought drop springs were drop springs and never gave it a thought that they might vary.
