alpine type s 12
Is this a good sub still and its in a custom ported box, i believe it is 900 watts so what would be a good amp?

Re: alpine type s 12
It is 900W Peak, but the RMS value is what you need to be concerned about, which is 300W. at 4 ohms. So find an amp that runs 300W over 4 ohm impedance. There are quite a few different ones you can look at, I don't know who has the best american prices. I use Visions Electronics (Canadian pricing), which has a nice Alpine amp on sale, shown here:

Gobbles is right...putting 900 watts to it will make it not last very long. There's better 12's out there, but there's always better so it's all a matter of what sounds good enough for you (and price of course). Have you heard it at all? My biggest concern would be the box. An incorrect port design can really diminish the quality of the sound.

Re: alpine type s 12
I would use a good name brand amp rated at 300W RMS or less...
Also the MOST important ingredient is the enclosure... this speaker should be mounted in an inclosure measuring an INTERNAL volume of 0.85-1.5 cubic feet for a sealed box. SEALED boxes are much easier to build as you dont have to be concerned with port location, length, diameter for tuning! AND in this speakers example, making a tuned box doesnt let you build it smaller anyway! When building the box dont for get to subtract 0.084 cu. ft for the displacement of the mounted speaker. |

The box is a ported box
