How rare are leaf rear springs on a 72 truck
I bought a 72 Chevy 2 wheel drive parts truck and it has leaf springs instead of coil springs. Is this a rare option that is desirable or are coil springs better?

Very common for a GMC. Much less common for a Chevy. That is if we are talking about a 2 wheel drive 1/2 '72.

Re: How rare are leaf rear springs on a 72 truck
The parts truck is a 72 2 wheel drive Chevy Cheyenne Super with leaf springs. Even the drive shaft is different than others I have seen in that it has a large round steel counter weight on the end that connects to the transmission. I am going to research and see if I can determine what rear end in there also. Would someone actually remove the coil spring setup and swap to this setup or is there no real advantage?
