Re: 72 Blazer and a 402...
wow thats nice. can you take more pics of how the dizzy fits on the fire wall and a couple shots of your dual shocks setup. are the k members all the same or are they different meaning one for a small block and the other for a big block.

The blazer had an earlier big block transplant from the PO, I have cleaned things up and put my new motor in. the cross member is in the original stock position and looks to have been modified from another support. as for distributor clearance the firewall has been hammered back to get a little over 1/2".
Thanks for the complements 7D2N |
Re: 72 Blazer and a 402...
Morgan, huh? Bet you have an insulated garage. We were up near there eating at that Texas Bar B Que place for dinner last Wed night and Man was it cold... got out of Utah just before your last storm hit:lol:.
OK... yea...Id way rather live there than in Socialist Calif. Way nice BB Blaze! |
Re: 72 Blazer and a 402...
Very nice work!! Wish I had gone that route in the beginning, but it is to late now. More pics, enjoy looking at it, nice to see that kinda progress
How did you do the double shock mounts I think I have to hammer the firewall back too! was it hard or did the metal move as planned |

Gary, the big block is in the same position as the small block was and uses the small block mounts.
jarso44sr, the fire wall was not just smashed back with a BFH, looks like it was tapped back with a large punch or something clearance the area behind the distributor. The dual shocks are nothing special just longer bolts to fit the additional shock. 7D2N |
Re: 72 Blazer and a 402...
thanks for the info, why do you say punch, instead of a hammer. Smaller dimples???

Re: 72 Blazer and a 402...

Re: 72 Blazer and a 402...
7D2N,
Nice big rock install. I'm in the process of putting a 402 in 72 blazer and I know you answerd many question but I have two more if you wouldn't mind? 1) if you had a small factory points dist. do you think it would clear? 2) Did you have to touch the fire wall at the right valve cover? I,m hoping to have the motor in the chassis by end of January and I would like adress the cleance issues before I re-install the body. I look forward to hearing from you Thanks, CORSAIR |
Re: 72 Blazer and a 402...
Thanks I was going to use the small block motor mounts and move every thing forward around 2" so I have more room for the big block.

7D2N[/QUOTE] Does that setup look strong enuff, I was thinking if I made another frame mount, similiar to the first one, but just longer to support the outside of the longer bolt |
Re: 72 Blazer and a 402...
jarso44sr, the blazer has only had light duty since I have had it, so as for the shocks as they are mounted now is probably not the best. Mounting bracket are made that mount to the frame and goes to the out side of shock and the bolt runs through both shocks. I saw them on a members blazer (a blue one)that had a build thread going.
