I figured I'd post this here since it is not necessarily an electrical question. Does anyone know if these connectors are available anywhere? They are 4 wire (brown, yellow, light green, dark green) for the intermediate harness that connects from the firewall, runs along the left frame rail, and connects to the tail light harness.

I know the harness with connectors is available for the 67-72 trucks, but they are different. I'm looking for a 1973 model. I believe they are the same up to '87(?). I spliced the connectors into a trailer harness. Should work fine but I've been having taillight issues...

I checked for continuity from prong to prong and I'm not getting any on the dark green wire, and my splices seem to be okay, so I'm thinking maybe it's an issue with one of the connectors. I do remember the taillights "wanted" to work when I jiggled the connector at the rear. I did have to splice them that close to the connector because the old wires were toast--one of the PO's spliced/mangled a tow harness in there.

Thanks in advance, and happy new year.

I am pretty sure I have those from my 73...and don't need them any more (I am running a Painless harness now). Let me look tomorrow, if I have them you pay postage and they are yours.

FYI - my taillights worked when i took the truck apart. :)

So I found the culprit--a worn/damaged spade terminal and wire connection. I pulled the spade terminal from the connector and found this...Attachment 674653

So Jeff, if you find that harness, let me know. Worse case scenario I will splice a trailer connector into the end of the intermediate harness and the taillight harness. I didn't really want to do that and act like a previous owner :smoke:, but it will/should work just as well.

Thanks.

Another option would be upgrading to the square 4 position WeatherPak that was used from 85 on. I've used them on 3 trucks with no issues. I don't remember the GMC pinout but it's in the wiring manuals.

Mouser electronics sells the all the individual pieces for under $7 total.
The last time I ordered these pieces I saved the parts needed as a Mouser quick access project.

Absolutely right, hatzie. I got to thinking last night about the same thing. The weatherpack connectors are about as durable as they come. I'm not loyal to the original connectors, so I may just do that and quit thinking so hard about this.

I looked in the garage the other night, I have two sets of these, if you still need them...$6 should get them to your door. PM me if you are still interested.
