how about pics of trucks with caps?
I am thinking about putting a fiberglass cap on my 82 longbed. I dont really need one, never really cared for them at all, but I do like the looks of the snugtop type that are the same height as the truck roof. I'm thinking it would look cool on the crewcab, maybe look a little like a Suburban at first glance. I would definitely paint it body color to match. Like I said, I dont really need one, and it might even be a pain if I need to take it off to haul a load of wood pellets or something. Basically I'd just be doing it because I want to see how it looks and it's about the only truck accessory I've never owned.
If anyones got pics of caps that arent goofy looking 6 foot high grampa caps, I'd like to see them. Also, if anyone knows what the interchangeability is; I just found a nice one but it's made for a 90s GM. Can't use it on my 97 because of the back rack and sander. |

Our '97 dually tow truck. Like them for keeping stuff dry.
If you drive on dirt roads much, they do collect dust. I had 2" rear drop shackles on rear, and reversed the side windows so front slid open instead of rear to be able to reach stuff in front. I really liked that truck. Had a 454 auto in it and would do anything thing you asked from it. 8mpg loaded, 10mpg empty. Kicked myself for selling it when we got a smaller trailer, if spite of being a gas guzzler. Cayoterun |

No, Bone stock silverado, except bug-deflector, visors, running boards, fake wheel covers, cap, and side decals. Rode like a limo, loaded or empty. Cayoterun |
Re: how about pics of trucks with caps?
wow thanks for all the pics. I definitely like the looks of the roof-level snugtop, glass-tite kind, not sure what to call them. Think I'll try it, just for looks I guess. Can't think of any reason I'd really need it, I don't carry much in the bed except for a toolbox full of recovery equipment and everything else. Don't have a toolbox in this truck, would probably put on in but idk. Couldn't use it with a cap. Maybe with a cap I'd find a different use for the bed.

Re: how about pics of trucks with caps?
Here's mine. But the cap is coming off as soon as I find someone who wants it. The truck barely fits in my garage as it sits now. If I put on slightly larger tires (which I plan to do), I won't be able to fit!

1980 dually with a cab high snug top
They come painted factory color when you order them. Snug top is one of the few companies still making them for 73-87s |

Me and my little bro just went halfers on this truck for $500. I wanted it for the canopy for my 90 Crewcab and my bro is using a bunch of stuff for his 85 4x4. Already sold the wheels and tires for $130! haha.. makes for some cheep parts AND a nice canopy!

Re: how about pics of trucks with caps?
:chevy: I have done alot of debating on topper vs tonneau Cover And honestly i think i like the idea of a flush with bed hard tonneau over a Topper. If i wanted to look like a suburban or blazer i would have bought one lol. And besides i like fitting 3 people max in my beater. :chevy: http://www.gatewayclassiccars.com/pi...&picture=4325f

Re: how about pics of trucks with caps?
Does anybody know where I can buy one of those snugtop types? Ive never bought a cap so I have no idea how to go about it. I've been checking CL with out much luck. Do I just provide the dimensions I need and see what ones would fit? It seems that most of the cap companies only sell/show that they sell caps for newer model trucks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: how about pics of trucks with caps?
new caps are apparently made of gold, not fiberglass. I've seen them priced at $1400! So a lot of guys want $600-700 for a nice used one. Used to be you could get one anywhere for $100 or so. I'm the type of guy that might pay $1400 for a whole vehicle, not paying that for an accessory.
I check craigslist regularly, sometimes see good deals but usually it's crazy prices or it's a cheap price for an ugly aluminum grampy cap. The one on the two tone brown and tan regular cab dually is exactly what I am thinking of. Black with tinted windows on a black truck would look really good, the windows would kind of blend in rather than stand out. Funny how in different regions they are called different things. I've always called them caps (and always will) but some places call them toppers, others camper shells, apparently in Canada they are canopys. |
