Front airbag issue
Ok I have an 81 that I bought a's a roller that was already on bags. It has no plumbing or air management so it's been rolling around deflated. I rolled it into my barn where I've been spending some time in the rear building my own wishbone link setup. It wasnt til a few days ago when I decided the front was low enough for my liking. I got to looking and this is what I found.
My truck appears to have stock spindles and some unknown brand aftermarket lower control arms. I realized I might have a little more drop left in this setup because my lca is coming in contact with my upper bag bracket at the spring perch. What should I do to correct this issue? http://i901.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/6fe6dd53.jpg http://i901.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/9d355e29.jpg Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Front airbag issue
Judging by the paint on those I saw they are DJM drop control arms. They are made to be used with springs, the lower pocket obviously allows the spring to sit lower giving you your drop.
No good way to get more drop out of that current set up. How low are the arms in relation to the center of your crossmember? |
Re: Front airbag issue
i would lose the control drop arms. Go with a 3" drop spindle but you are going to be held back by the stock crossmember.

Re: Front airbag issue
Redrill those two bolt holes around the corner from where they are now and they should clear. Beyond that, get spindles and cup some stock arms.

Re: Front airbag issue
What i have done is weld a plate to cover the pocket for the spring and cut a hole under the pocket to be able to run a bolt in the bottom of ur bag. Youll get about a 3 inch lift by doing so. But then some 2 1/2 drop spindles will put you back where you were at and still have a 1/2 inch clearance. The spindles will run u about $200 dollars and well the welding im sure you can handle i think its the best cost effected way.

Re: Front airbag issue
dont mind the truck but the front was flat plates on the lower control arms and 2 1/2 drop spindles fully lowered i have a 1/2 clearance. you also dont have to worry about the bag rubbing.
