rainex weather beater wiper blades
 

anyone used these wiper blades and how did you like them . got some cheap ones when i first bought my last truck and they suck . or if you can recommend another brand that doesnt rub on the windshield as its driving me nuts.

I buy walmart ANCO wipers. Cheap and work good when new. Here in AZ the sun rots any blade out in no time. My bosch excels were horrible. And Triple-edge just chattered all the time.

We have Rain-X wiper blades on our Honda CR-V. They are at least 2 years old and still work like new. I'm pretty sure they're the Weatherbeater version because I usually don't buy expensive blades. Normally I just replace them every year but so far these are still providing a clean sweep.

I bit the bullet and paid the extra for the rain-x wipers just to see if it was worth it. IMO they are. I have put them on three of my vehicles now, and they seem to be holding up just fine (two years on the oldest set). They're rather expensive for wipers though.

true they are expensive but well worth it if your in a down poor and wanna get where your going without crappy wipers chattering the whole time . i always thought wipers were wipers , guess i'll find out when i change over to the rain-x ones

Something I have found, esp on old vehicles, a real good scrubbing on the glass. I like doing it with real strong dishsoap water... like to the point the water has turned a little bit the color of the soap. I use a scrub brush on it too. After that, I'll use a degreaser, Spray9 is my favorite, but formula 409 is another good one for this. Scrub real good with the scrub brush again. Then I'll follow up with windex. This all helps get deposits and crap off the glass and gets rid of the chatter. I normally give a good coat of wax too, found that on the freeway I don't even need wipers, even at night, and the wipers slide right across. I'm still torn on weather I like rain X or wax better as a top coat. The wax (or rain X) can disapear as soon as you spray the washer solvent on the glass, but mine doesn't work so it is a non issue with me.
It is just as important to have the blades clean too if they are not new. Also every time you wash the car, or even clean the windshiel, you should wipe the blade with a paper towel, you'll be surprised at how much black crap will come off.
The real good scrubbing is something I do whenever I ger a new old vehicle... not like every washing or every year. Just once. The waxing I've been known to do 3 or 4 times a year, but usually just twice, just before winter, and then again in the spring.
Following this has been able to make my wipers last for quite a long time. My longhorn is on it's second set of blades since it's been back on the road (in 05) and the burb still has its set I installed as soon as I got it home in 07.

that is one thing i need to do . the truck had been sitting under a tree for a year before i bought it so theres no telling whats on the glass

shoot i dont even have windshield wipers on my 70 beetle. all i use is rain-x, that stuff is wonderfull, probably works better than the wipers would anyways. as for my truck, i havent drove it in a while, it just sits in my garage waiting to be worked on when i get some money for parts real soon.

Good ideas! years back when I detailed cars we used 0000 steel wool to clean glass. Anything stronger and you could scratch.
Do be careful as I once thought I was using 0000 as it said on the bag but it was misbagged and left marks on the glass.
I've used vinegar to remove water spots on glass so I'd guess it would do a good cleaning on the windshield.
I bought PIAA blades for my wifes XB and they are great!
They actually treat the glass and act like RainX when not in use.
Wish I could get them for my Silverado.

like longhorn said cleaning the glass is a huge help//i use bonami to polish the glass a couple times a year
i normally just use anco or trico wiper blades every year or so i change them out
mostly i just choose not to drive in the rain

to clean the glass use newspaper instead of paper towels ,old timer in detail shop taugh this way it works

I do pretty much the same as LHM except I use Green alcohol(available at most drug stores) instead of the windex.It dries streak free and the windsheild is clean enough to use the Rain-x.

Probably like most here I hate spending money on something like wiper blades. But I did this time for the weather- beater rain-x blades when I started driving our Saturn to work each day.

With winter being what it's been here in central IL this year, a lot of snow!, they have been worth it.

What I did do first, as many mentioned, was to thoroughly clean the glass surface. Then I added a double application of Rain-x polish/wax. That stuff really does work! Often when it's raining I don't even need the wipers because of that coating on the glass.

Since that "discovery" I've put that polish/wax on all the glass on our vehicles. Can't say enough how good that stuff works.

The blades? Because I already used the wax, didn't bother with the weather blades that also says it has the wax "built in".

Both products are worth the money in my opinion only of course. Before this, I always bought the cheap. Yet there is a very noticeable difference! When the 1-ton needs blades these will also be what replaces what is on it.:metal:

i also use rain X or rain a way all the time on all the glass mirrors included. i made the switch to this w/w fulid http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows...%252BFluid.jsp a few years back as it adds protection of rain x as you use it, and its in all my autos. it's good to -40c or -40 f. when are temp falls way way down i have to have a min -40 or i end up replaceing the washer tanks and pumps

Hey Q those wiper arms look familiar. ;)
I've put the rain-x latitude blades on my wife car, work great. Before I couldn't get a set to last a month. I also use the rain-x de-icer + rain-x windshield washer fluid. Works great, aslong as I am moving along the water beads up, and hardly have to use my wipers anyways.

no that white fogging is inbetween the layers of the glass(laminated safty glass seperate layers with an adhesive bonding strip in the middle)and there is no way to remove i the white hazing// glass needs replaced
