The usual tire size question......Please help an idiot out.....

Please help me out on this guys. Just picked up a set of 17x9" wheels with a 6 inch offset. Hoping to run them on my '79 2 wheel drive with no drop. May drop it later but will be a 2" max. What would be the best tire size for me to run. Looking at possibly going with a 275/55/17 but I'm not sure. What is everyones opinion on this. Thanks.....

Justin

Take your pick ;)

Use this calculator to see how the tires stack up against each other.

More importantly....

Frank, would you have room to go another .500" toward the center of the truck? I know my 74 was very close (too close) @ 5.5"bs. I don't think 6"bs would work w/o spacers.

Same on the front.... I had 8's w/5.25"bs which required a fairly healthy shave of the lower a-arm lip. 6"bs would require the same, & then some.

I run 315/35/17 in the rear and 275/45/17 in the front. I have shaved a small amount from the lower a arms and installed wheel spacers. They have never rubbed and ride good.

You are right about the rear . I would never go any more than 5.5 backspace in the rear unless I was going to use a spacer . The fronts clear the a-arms fine but I only use 2.5 Western Chassis spindles for that reason. Once you go to 3 inch spindles you have clearance issues.

i realy dont know mine. i got them used. no fitment problem. the back could use a 1/2 spacer. it rubs the inner wells on hard turns. im going to get skinner tires next time around to fix that problem
