Moment of silence I sent one to the crusher today.

OH it wasn't much on this old truck anyways. It was a 67 Chevy shortframe, but had a utility body on the back. Like I said it was rusted pretty bad. I figured it was like humanely euthanizing(sp?) the poor thing. I'm sure it was glad to finally be melted down and made into something new. I did save the motor, it is a newer 80's 350 it will live again in another truck.
Sorry for the lame pic, it was with my cell as it was being pulled up the road.

How much do you get scrap in your area? Just wondering why not part it out....

I hear ya. I crushed this 72 cheyenne last week. Hate to do it, but you can't save them all.

The fact is parts are not selling too well right now. At least my luck with a SWB rolling frame and fleetside bed has not been great.

The frame on this truck wasn't really worth the extra time stripping all the sheet(rust) metal off it.
Hey don't tell Badpurple70chevy that I have a 72 cheyenne I'm going to be crushing after I strip it of the parts I need.

Very true. I don't know of anyone that loses their job and says, "Gee, I think I will start building a truck now"

Its going to happen and when things arent selling you might as well crush the trucks that have no salvagable parts. Theres a gmc and a cheyenne that ive been pulling parts off of but to restore those trucks would be way to much time an money into it so theyll sit there and rot away until they become a pile of rust, i wont ever crush them because i always want more parts:lol: but they just sit out there year after year and worsen each year... Sad i know but you cant save them all.

I've made at least 6 trips to sell scrap metal this year. Of the 67-72's, I've seen a different one - or parts of one - at the recyclers' every trip there last year. Lot of people scrapping stuff these days.

If I had my 70 GMC burb stripped it'd be going. It'd bring more than I gave for it at our current $220. a ton! But still makes a good parts storage shed. I've got a load on the truck right now too go today, some old motors that have got caught in flood water too many times.

Frustrating how many want 1000 for a parts truck, then scrap it for 400 bucks. why not sell it for 500?

I tried going that route selling all my parts trucks for around $700-$900 each. I don't know what people expect for that money. If you have the time, you make more by stripping any parts and crushing it yourself. Keep in mind these trucks are around 4,000 lbs complete. That could be around $400 just to go straight to the crusher right now. I assume the $1000 parts truck will still have some good stuff. Hard to sell for $500 then. Hope this makes sense...

I can see sending one to the grave after everything thats usable is stripped off it. Maybe Im an idiot for thinking this way but Id rather get all the parts and give them away if I had to just so they were used for another truck.

Re: Moment of silence I sent one to the crusher today.

what grinds my gears is when someone says "this truck must sell by tomorrow or its going to the scrapper" ""I won't take any less than $1000, I KNOW WHAT ITS WORTH." To which I reply, its "worth" about 275-300 in scrap. I will give you $350. For your time. Got some cars a time or two this way. also got cussed out in email too! LOL :metal:
