HELP ! Paint scheme decision..... Mayday..Mayday..

2 Attachment(s)
Hey guys....11th hour decision. Thought I had it all worked out on the paint scheme on my Burb. Going with original colors ..except.... was going to paint the roof white. My dad painted the roof white after moving to Arizona 50 years ago.

Live in Arizona so heat via the sun, plays a role. So........ tomorrow they are block sanding the final primer coat....ready to shoot the roof white, which is what I decided. BUT...now having second thoughts as the originality. Since I am the second generation, original owner ( my father bought right after I was born) it is very original.

SO....paint it white for comfort ?

OR...paint it the green for originality ?

I'm Soooo confused...:ito:

White? Green? If it's hot you ain't gonna be any cooler. Go with what you want.

if you paint the top white and you don't like it, it's your goof. If you go with the original green you can always say, hey, that's how it came from the factory.
The white will probably last longer in the sun though.

If you paint it all green, you could always scuff, mask, and spray white over the top in the summer if you think it's too hot. That way your body work's all done already. I'm not at all a painter so spraying over the green base may be a bad idea, but it's a thought.

i vote for white roof... cooler temp wise and cooler look. not from bottom of windows and over but from drip rail to drip rail. maybe add a little more white accents like grill surround or wheels even pinstripes. imo big vehicles need something to break up the color, especially a dark color. but thats just me.

In Tucson Arizona, America's Oven??

Go white! It will make a noticeable difference in the inside temp's.

ANd should look good to, especially if you plan to also do the factory white around the grill opening. It breaks up all that green.

Thanks for the input guys.. I think I have it narrowed down to either white or green...

Since they are ready to spray white today, I guess I'll go that way and then if I really want it green, I can set up the scaffolding and have it prepped and shot. It's just the roof is so big and hard to prep and shoot.

Still willing to read comments though..got 5 hours until spray time. :uhmk:

White reflects the heat better...the Arizona sun will do a job on green in no time unless you garage the sub. Me, I like the white with a contrasting body color but as said ,your decision

I would leave it green, personally. I think it will look better. My truck is blue and I don't think it is noticeably more hot than my old, white '62 I used to drive. They both are freakin hot in the summer and freakin cold in the winter like this a.m. haha

On second thought, if you are still struggling with a decision, err on the side of originality. Go with the factory scheme, as it was when your dad owned it. Did I just confuse you more? Sorry.

I'm a two-tone kind of guy.

I think the 2-tone looks much nicer, especially with all those straight lines, and if the white cools the inside any, that's a bonus.

Re: HELP ! Paint scheme decision..... Mayday..Mayday..

Yeah, I meant two tone green and white. I thought you were talking about leaving the paint scheme as is but painting the very top of the roof white.

If you are worried about heat, spray the roof in Lizard Skin. It will drop the temp.
You have all those windows consider yourself lucky. My panel just cooks in side sunny or not.

I guess i am a stickler for originality but for me i would paint it back like it was when new.

Re: HELP ! Paint scheme decision..... Mayday..Mayday..

I prefer the appearance of the green top, but if your dad painted it white when nearly new, the vehicle has a family history of looking that way. That counts for something in originality if it has spent most of its life with that paint scheme. I have painted more than one roof white myself because of the heat and it makes a lot of difference. But when in doubt, and especially if they are ready to shoot white today – go with white, you can always repaint it later.

Just a note having nothing to do with your decision - at Peterbilt back in the 70’s, white was the “default” color. If the custom paint specs didn’t make it down to the paint shop in time, the truck was always painted white. Presumably this made it easier to paint it something else later.

Decided to go white on top at this point with the thought process that I could shoot it green later. Decided that going green would throw another "block" in the way of progress.

Thanks for the input guys. I gotta quit 2nd guessing decisions on this beast or it will never get back together.

I think the white would be cooler in the summer too. I agree with your decision. ( I know you were waiting for me to say something)
