I have a 1985 chevy silverado i have a 305 with a rochester quad in it i need an automatic choke brother in law broke the metal piece clean off he jb welded it but when i hook it up the choke light is on and the truck will not run very well at all oh yea and i had the carb rebuilt well it runs not so good but it does backfire when you rev up the engine when you can keep it running you have to keep it floored and when you let go it dies and I have no clue how the vacuum hoses go on cause my dip stick brother in law didnt mark them when he took them off oh yea and he was doing somthing undernieth the truck the other night and well i drove two blocks from my house and my gas gage went from half a tank to almost empty i know the horn doesnt work every time i put a fuse in it it pops it every time I NEED HELP AAAAHHHH! any suggestions would be awsome.

a) get correct choke bracket from junkyard or dealer b) while at dealer get the correct manual for your truck (the expensive one) and read! c) keep binl from truck since he doesnt appear to be too bright d) work on it yourself then you will know whats wrong with it. you have wire touching metal on the horn portion and you have same with gas gauge prob.

i take it you are not mechanically inclined but at least you have common sense to know you should mark hoses when you take them off.
i hope your b-in-law is not a mechanic by trade. take the advice given to go out and get a book on the truck, after years of having my cars worked on i am doing alot myself. sometimes frustrated but with the right info saving $60/hr.

Try www.ebaymotor.com for a manual. I pickup a factory manual for my '83 for only $35.00. Worth every dime too!!
