1 Ton front crossmember in 1/2 ton??
OK I am gettin a lwb square on trade. Runs good, th350 needs a rebuild etc. Base model truck. I want to put 1 ton suspension under it. Is it as simple as unbolt a 1 ton crossmember and bolt it under the 1/2 ton? I know the 1/2 ton frames are thinner in gauge and shorter in height. How about the rear? Are the springs different lengths? I seen a thread about putting a 1 ton front end under a 1/2 ton not too long ago. I cant find it for hell now.

Re: 1 Ton front crossmember in 1/2 ton??
Yes front susp. will bolt right up..you can even put the ton front susp..under a 67-72 frame..bolts right up to them..less 2 bolts..
I have a front ton susp out of a 2wd 87 crew cab dually here..$100..Only thing is the calipers are gone..rotors and everything else is there.. |

Me too. Wife hates my junk. I am not making it a dually tho. Just single rear wheel 1 ton stuff.

Re: 1 Ton front crossmember in 1/2 ton??
If you use a 3/4 ton 14bolt instead of a 1 ton 14 bolt then the rear axle should just bolt right up. I believe the one tons have the spring perches closer to the frame (I know the D70HD dually axle I have has the springs mounted closer to the frame, i know your not going dually, im just saying).
So really if you get the whole 1 ton front suspension and a 3/4 ton 14 bolt for the rear it should just bolt on! |
Re: 1 Ton front crossmember in 1/2 ton??
hehe.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...e/IMAG0547.jpg Im guessing it was my thread that was being referred to, my 1/2 ton frame was actually a 1/2 inch taller in the crossmember section than the 1 ton frame, so the brackets that set on the inside of the frame weren't usable, but hey I get to rip it all out again anyhow after discovering a bent frame. Hope your swap goes well spudz, post some pics too please, I haven't got to the rear of mine yet, but will have to when I put a new 1 ton frame under it. |

Both front and rear will work if its a SRW. Remember Blazer/4x4 guys swap 1 tons all the time.
By inside brackets he means the ones the go from the frame to the crossmember. 1 tons have taller frame rails. |
