Budget build 72 4x4

5 Attachment(s)
Just brought home this 72 3spd. 4x4. Thanks Josh!!! Very happy with the buy. I first bought it for the single wall top but after getting it home realized that I need to keep this truck together and fix any problems. It does have some rust issues but I feel that over time I will be able to fix those. But, its a running driving blazer that is mechanically very sound. My plan is to fix this blazer on a budget. the nice thing is that this blazer has alot of those little parts that nickle and dime you to death. I figure fix the rust, paint it, throw on some new weather stripping, elbow grease here and a little paint there and I'll have a real nice rig. Any imput on how I can save $$$$ will be greatly appreciated! Here are a couple of pics. because I know we all love them.

What it needs:
rust fixed
new wheels (has nice buckshot 33x12.50)
new front bumper
hole in outer grill fixed
new inner grill or plastic weld old one
engine pulled and gone through (later though, it runs good)
new weatherstripping all around
A radio!
New exhaust, too loud for my liking
new paint (I'm going to paint this one)
Make some rear inner panels
find new back hatch
new locks (don't have key) **on order
new Steering wheel (badly cracked old one)
Clean up old gauges

Im sure there is lots more!!
Ill have more pics

Like those wheels, had a set of em back in the 80's! They don't rust, just can corrode with the elements.

Looks like your headed the same direction as me. Looking forward to seeing some progress. Maybe it will motivate me to get off here and go work on it.

Re: Budget build 72 4x4

Why not just clean the wheels up and paint them? I was going to switch out my wheels from the ol'skool slotted rallies but mines a budget build as well so I just painted mine from white to black. Made a huge difference looks wise.

Looks a like a great base to start with. Everythings there. The only REAL project you have is the rust repair lol Otherwise everything else is simple enough to do.

Good luck and have fun.

I thought about that, but I'm a fan of chrome wheels, I do have a lead on a set of ultra wheels from a guy I work with. I'm going to have the buckshot tires mounted on them if it works out.

Nice ride! As a project spendoholic I am eager to see how a blazer gets built within a reasonable budget. Looking forward to the progress.

Freakshow-
Thanks I guess. Hope you find what you're looking for. Found this one on here. I like that I don't have to tear it apart to restore it. I'm not trying to build a show truck, but something that looks good and I still won't mind finding a mud hole in.

Corsair-
Here ya go.

Got a brand new gauge bezel on ebay for $35.00. A little more than I wanted to spend but I think it will be well worth it. Ill put it on tonight with a little gauge clean up and post some pics tomorrow.

Ridnhi,
Its always cool to see what options came from the factory. My blazer had a 16" x 6.5 wheels as a option I haven't seen them on any other blazer. Good luck with the build and keep us updated.

Thanks,
CORSAIR

Thanks, and yes it is, I picked it up last week. I was expecting worse when I got there. Don't get me wrong it needs work, but its a solid driver for now. I don't know how long I'll keep it though, I'll keep you in mind if I don't. I have 71 blazer that is at the body shop. I have a thread for it too, it's (my 71 K5)I'm playing around with this one while that one is out of service.

Re: Budget build 72 4x4

So the wheels I had a line on turned out to be 5 lug ford wheels. I was pretty bummed because they were pretty nice aluminum ultra wheels. Oh well. ..... I pulled the door panels to change out the door locks, which are not wanting to lock now. I ran out of time so guess I get to finish that project later.... I also tried putting it my new gauge bezel and couldn't get the d*** light switch out. Is there a trick to taking that out without breaking it?

Pull light switch knob out, reach up and push small button on switch behind dash, push knob in while holding button and pull out knob. The "rod" and knob should come out as one, unscrew the fancy nut and done.

Eli im still heart broken and even more no i see my old girl on here ! No im glad your happy with the buy im sure you ve had time to drive it and know you got a good solid rig to work with i hope the next one i buy drives and feels half as good as that one did . I put the new light switch in her if you reach your hand from underneath and reach on the top of the switch there is a button you push down on and hold down while you pull the knob out of the switch ! then just take that nut off and it will come out ! man thats a good looking blazer !!!!!!!!
