Which engine to look for?

Looking for one of the LSx engine family that support the V-8 to V-4 cylinder cut out function.

So my question is what year and model vehicle would these engines orginally come equiped with? Hoping these would be the 6.0 liter engines for performance for my heavy 4x4 and then on the highway be able to go into economy mode for fuel saving mode.

Thanks for your help in this matter.

I believe it came on the 2007+ new bod style trucks. It's Active Fuel Management (AFM) but I'm not sure how or if it would work well in a swap into an old truck because I'm guessing the trucks BCM might control the system but I'm really not sure.

At least that's a start.

Not sure what the BCM is suppose to be but pretty sure that any function can be programmed in or out that is not needed. But still have the system work as intended.

Looking at long term project so planning now.

Thanks.

Keeping the AFM with a engine swap has been done on the board....just can't find them at the moment. Heres a link to another place that will have delt with AFM in swaps. Just might need to search for a bit because most seem to eliminate it.

Cool Thank you.

Will have to become a member there and check things out.

I had an 08 Sub with the displacement on demand system and found the slightest grade, use of the A/C or engaging 4WD would instantly disengage the system. As a result I did not see a fuel economy increase attributed to it's use. It sounds great in theory but I didn't experience a benefit. Perhaps during periods of extended idling it would improve fuel mileage.
