My wife's K5
3 Attachment(s)
After building a number of square trucks it was time that I built my wife something. Little did I expect that should would choose a K5 blazer as her choice of poison!
Her build began with a 1988 K5 Blazer that we purchase from the original owner with only 76,000 miles (Documented). The Blazer had a 4" rancho lift with 33" BFG tires. We had previously looked at a number of other blazers, all of which were beat to hell, and had half empty beer cans scattered throughout the interior(s) (Note to Cops.... Should you see a K5 Blazer there is a 9 out of 10 chance there is an open container violation)... |
Re: My wife's K5

The initial plan did not involve altering this beast in any way.
The fact was, we needed a decent source of transportation while I completed my 87' crew cab short bed: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=381424 I am a strictly cash consumer so financing anything besides my school loans isn't even a consideration. After the first few weeks of trouble free use our old Blazer started to show it's true signs of age. First the front passenger tire came apart from weathering (Tires were practically brand new but had sat in the weather for over 8 years unused), then the exhaust collapse between the mounting flange and exhaust manifold (Big exhaust leak), the trottle began to stick, and a few other things came apart due to years of sitting and deterioration. I wasn't really in the mood to go out and buy a set of tires ($1200 plus) so I thought I would use the wheels and tires I had purchased for my crew cab project. These were eight lug wheels so an axle swap was en-store for the blazer: 3/4 ton Dana 44 Front with flat top passenger side steering knuckle for a later cross over steering setup (4.10 Gears) Corp 14 Full float rear axle with (4.10 Gears) |

Re: My wife's K5
Both front and rear axles received all new bearings, seal, brakes, ball joints, tie rod ends, the works...

While setting up the rear axle for the proper pinion angle I rolled the shock mounts just above the bottom of the axle housing as to avoid obstruction of ground clearance, and also set up brake line mounts to insure a stream line appearance that would also aid in their protection from incoming obstacles.

I hate to sell it but it just isn't practical for my family and I right now. My five year old is the most upset out of all of us for selling his monster truck.... We may just hold on to it if it doesn't sell...?... |

As I may or may not have stated, my wife and I recently had or second son on January 8. As a treat to my older son (5 years old) for being an amazing helper these last few days I took him to the hobby store to pick out a "Good Boy" prize.
He settled on a 1980 Blazer body for his Scorpion rock crawler buggy along with black and red paint to complement his new purchase. I am personally not a fan of the black and red paint job on my wife's k5 so I tried to pursued him into a nice blue or all black paint job... He wouldn't have it. As soon as he saw the blazer body he had to have a truck like "Momma's". So here is what we did today: |
