My Dad's '61 Chevy
When I was a little kid, the truck I grew up on was my dad's '61 Chevy pickup. I remember quite a bit about this truck. Not everything, but quite a bit. I can tell you this was no ordinary '61 Chevy. It was a complete and utter rat rod.
To begin, the only piece of the '61 left, was the frame. Which my dad kept because of the torsion bar front suspension. It had the cab off of a '65, the front clip off of a '64, and the bed was off of a '55. 350 V8 engine out of a 1981 Corvette, and a Turbo 400 transmission. Gas tank came out of the cab and my dad put one under the bed. Also had a home-made rear bumper, with big ass Yosemite Sam mudflaps. I found some old pics of it so ANYWAY enough blabbering. Let's get started with the pics! http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20Chevy/01.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20Chevy/02.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20Chevy/03.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20Chevy/04.jpg These are all early '90s in our driveway in Sacramento, CA. |

Re: My Dad's '61 Chevy
Thanks for sharing the old photos. Just goes to show for some of us these trucks have been popular for a long time.

Kind of funny, I can easily remember sitting in the seat and staring down at the one hole in the floor pan, and staring at the tire. |
Re: My Dad's '61 Chevy
Anyhoo, I have more pics:

He ran 295/50 wides all around. BF Goodrich on the front, Dunlop on the back. Home-made bumper and hitch, and everyone's favorite big ass Yosemite Sam mudflaps. And there's still more. Lol |
Re: My Dad's '61 Chevy
Next up, the few pics of my grandpa [mom's dad] spraying the primer:

Re: My Dad's '61 Chevy
Here's some pics from Feb. 1995, moving to Missouri from Cali the first time. We moved from CA to MO in Feb. 95, then moved back to CA in Nov. 95, and moved back to Missouri in June 2006. Still here, too! Anyway, here's the pics.
These two are the truck and trailer loaded up, the day we left Cali. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20Chevy/18.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20Chevy/19.jpg These two are random stops. One of them was at a hotel, the other, I have no clue. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20Chevy/20.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20Chevy/21.jpg The rest, are after we got to Missouri. The truck was covered in ice. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20Chevy/22.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20Chevy/23.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20Chevy/24.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20Chevy/25.jpg |

Re: My Dad's '61 Chevy
These are the last 4 pics I could find of the truck. We might have newer ones, but I don't know where they are.
These two are in Stotts City, MO in '95, when my dad had the front clip off of the truck. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20Chevy/27.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20Chevy/28.jpg Then these two, the first is circa '96 or '97. Right after we moved back to CA. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20Chevy/29.jpg This one is about '97 or '98. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20Chevy/30.jpg |
