I WANT YOUR OPINION... Dually Wheels on Blazer
I have a 75 Blazer that I am converting to 2wd. I will post some pics and such things later.
My biggest dilemma has been wheel and tire package. I personally love the look of dually suburbans and I have seriously considered doing the dually thing to the blazer. (better decide before I get to much further into the 1/2 ton 2wd swap) Then while having a discussion with my friends (other gearheads) the idea of using dually rims front and rear (10 lug/24" cause why not) both front and rear, but mounting them like front rims on the rear as well but not putting duals on. I my mind I think it would look great. All the mass and truckyness of 10 lug TRUCK rims, but without the wide ass of the dually. Now all logistics with regard to width and such aside, WHAT DO YOU THINK? AND...if you are a photochop master.. How about you scab together a pic so we can all benefit from a visual reference. Thanks for the input. |
Re: I WANT YOUR OPINION... Dually Wheels on Blazer
Since you asked for opinions, I will offer mine. It would look horrible due to the proportions being totally wrong. Dually Burbs look good because of the length. I have seen them with narrowed rear fenders and low profile tires, and they look even better. A Blazer with dually wheels would not look right at all.

No don't do it, My opinion... That would be as ugly as a chopped blazer.. just my opinion.

Re: I WANT YOUR OPINION... Dually Wheels on Blazer
Apparently I was not clear enough.
I stated that I was NOT going to put dual wheels on the rear of the vehicle. Where I guess I wasn't clear is in my description of what I wanted to do on the rear. I think the easiest description is to say... Imagine making the front dually in the traditional manner, then copy and pasting that exact same rim and tire combo on the rear. So the front and rear would both we positive offset. The opposite of deep dish. So now what do you think? |
Re: I WANT YOUR OPINION... Dually Wheels on Blazer
dont do it! too wide, too short...leave the dually to the Burbs

Am I really not describing this correctly? I am NOT looking to dually the blazer. I am NOT going to put four wheels and tires on the rear axle of the blazer. I am NOT going to put dually fenders on the blazer. I am talking about getting the big mean tough look of positive offset wheels front and rear of the vehicle. I guess its time that I exercise my less than effective photochopping skillz to pictorially present the concept that I am obviously not effectively describing with the written word. I will be back in a little bit with a picture... I hope. |

I get what you are saying. I also think it would look like the chariot in Ben Hur. I saw a Cadillac with some wider wheels that convey a similar look not too long ago (I work in the ghetto). It looked completely silly. This is just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

Re: I WANT YOUR OPINION... Dually Wheels on Blazer
I appreciate the opinion... I like the chariot reference (LOL!)
I have seen so many deep dish Blazers that I am trying to create something different in my finished product. There are only so many wheels and tires out there and sooner or later it seems that its all been done. HAHA... I keep chuckling thinking of Ben Hur with a red bandana and an Uzi rollin in a lowered Blazer with 4" lug nut spikes. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you mean like my truck below before I put dually fenders on the rear. If so it requires a wider rear axle and dually front hub extensions unless you want to run bif spacers.

Re: I WANT YOUR OPINION... Dually Wheels on Blazer
I understand what your asking. Your wanting front dually wheels for both the front and back wheels. There is a longbed squarebody in my neighborhood with front and rear dually wheels. It looks odd to tell you the truth. The center of the wheel itself sticks out further than the tires, kinda looks like goofy stilts. So in my honest opinion, don't do it.

67_C30 & jorgen, thx for the pics and opinion.
67, that is exactly what I am thinking about. The push is that I am going to run 1/2 ton front and rear and I will design and have built custom adapters/spacers to tuck the dually wheels to just the right width. Obviously I am not looking for 1ton carrying capacity with this design, I am trying to achieve a look. Now I have to decide if that look is what I really wanna do. I am going to borrow some fancy 22's from a friend and mock them up on the body this weekend. I will then take some pics and post them (I hope I get that done.. LOL!) Thanks to all who have responded up to this point. |

I don't think it looks right, front duals on the rear just never look right. The motorhome is just a reference, but it makes me laugh. (no offense)
Here are some dually blazer pics - http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=439610 |
Re: I WANT YOUR OPINION... Dually Wheels on Blazer
I guess I am the odd guy out here. I think it will look cool. Depends alot on the truck though. Going to have to just nail everything else, might take a few trys to get the stance and width right

Re: I WANT YOUR OPINION... Dually Wheels on Blazer
I like 'em on a shortbed truck more than a Blazer, but I still think they look decent. Can't do it with stock ride height, though - either jack it up or lower it down onto the tires.

Re: I WANT YOUR OPINION... Dually Wheels on Blazer
Maybe go to the photoshop section and see if they will do one of your Blazer. Ask them what to change, the ride height, and the wheel you like. At least that way you can get an idea of the final result. Then put the photo back in here and people can give a better response than a blind idea.

Hope you didn't do this.

Re: I WANT YOUR OPINION... Dually Wheels on Blazer
You could always run the 8 lug dually rims. Swap in a 3/4 ton running gear and run the dually rims on that. Or just change the spindles from 6 lug to 8 lug like this guy did
http://coloradok5.com/8lugconversion.shtml I love dually blazers, planning on building one in the future, and think even a pseudo dually would be cool looking. If you can't get the photoshop guys on here to do you up a drawing drop me a message and I will mess around and see what I can do for ya. |

I believe the look you are going for is what they use as Rail Road trucks. Definately not something I would do. Unless you want to drive on railroads...
