Gas filler option when moving tank to rear of truck
For those of you that have forgone saddle tanks and instead installed a suburban tank between the frame rails what have you done for a filler? I really don't want to have the filler come up through the floor so I was thinking of installing one of these doors on the outside of the body and building the filler neck to go behind it. The door would be located behind the dually fender on the drivers side.
I am open to other options? http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i4...c/22dc009e.png Posted via Mobile Device |

The kit I got from Transfer Flow allowed the use of the original fill pipe on the passenger side of my square. It's still a long process and a pain in the neck to put gas in my truck.

Re: Gas filler option when moving tank to rear of truck
I posted a thread about this in the blazer/suburban forum, with not much luck yet. What I had in mind was cutting out the stock fuel door from another square body and having it welded in place in the rear, and then plumb the filler tube right up to the fuel door. I am still open for ideas too because my idea does involve a decent amount of bodywork.

Re: Gas filler option when moving tank to rear of truck
I understand not wanting to go through the bodywork. I have also seen people route the filler up behind the tail light, so that the whole light assembly opens on a hinge to access the filler, but I havent found any results of how well they worked or how the wiring worked out...

Re: Gas filler option when moving tank to rear of truck
I thought of actually cutting out the Suburban filler and placing it on my truck in the same place? Just forward of the tail light. I haven't researched this at all, but I have a Suburban and a truck, so I have everything I need.....ecept a welder and welding skills! ;)

A rear mounted tank was offered in the 75-81 pickups and is filled from the rear at the plate. LMC carries the tank, sending unit, and the straps.

There are these pre-fabbed pieces:

Took the drivers side tail light out and I think behind the tail light is going to work pretty easily. I will need to make a custom filler tube and fabricate a hinge for the light assembly but the initial look is this shouldn't be to bad!

Not the license plate I'm guessing? It is lower than the top of the gas tank. Also can you tell me where you got the info? To my knowledge, there were no rear tanks in any of the square pickup trucks (from the factory) just blazers and burbs. Posted via Mobile Device |

That could be a retrofit kit they are offering. |

BTT... I'd like to know more about this rare rear tank option...

I'd place it behind the licence plate like a caprice. Just adapt the part into the existing bumper.

Right on the money 502ss,
I almost have my tail light filler worked out, just need to build a hinge (I'm a procrastinator ;)) Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Gas filler option when moving tank to rear of truck
When you figure out the hinged tail light, make 2 so I can get one!

I got it figured out in my head, just need to make it reality ;) Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Gas filler option when moving tank to rear of truck
There was a rear mount location for the cab & chassis models (aka pickups with no box). I wonder if that's what LMC is showing.
