Need Help/Advise on project planning..
Hey guys,
Getting ready to get the truck going on the full build here in the next month or so. Anyways, im stuck on the planning part. IE What to do first, etc etc.. This is what ive come up with in this order .. Airbag Get body ready for paint Shave the fire wall and have engine bay painted the body color Drop in the motor and get it running/driving under its own power Paint Rewire and final assembly of exterior Brakes and Wheels Interior Theres alot of little stuff obviously in between but its a rough list, Looking for input on my order of things, maybe theres something I should do instead of something else first and what not. Want to make sure everything is in order before I jump into it and also so I dont get in over my head. Matt |
Re: Need Help/Advise on project planning..
I'd do bags, brakes and wheels all at once. I would also rewire before paint.
I have learned over the years, paint should be LAST (or second to last, only behind interior ASSEMBLY). Mock everything up you can before you tear it apart for all the finish work (paint/interior/suspension/etc) Bag and tag EVERYTHING, even if it seems silly at the time. Photos help for confusing areas as well. |
Re: Need Help/Advise on project planning..
Cool Thanks for the input! I will just wait untill I have all the parts to do the bagging and brakes at the same time then..

Re: Need Help/Advise on project planning..
hope you have another truck thats getting this work done.
since ive been on this site, your truck is def on the top 5 as is. good luck with everything man. |
Re: Need Help/Advise on project planning..
I agree with Jeff. Do the brakes and suspension work first, then wiring and then body/metal work. The paint should be next to last before the interior. Paint and body is the most time consuming to me. You definetly don't won't to do wiring with fresh paint. Too much room for error.

Ok I will do the wiring before paint then.. Looks like I wont be starting on this as soon as I thought, If I do the suspension and brakes at the same time I need to make sure I have everything first. Sweet more parts collecting lol.. |

If not,... I would keep your paint, shave the firewall, Dropmembers, and wheels,... drive the crap out of it! Paint the exterior another day. |
Re: Need Help/Advise on project planning..
Ya Im going to buy the drop members, Going to buy them in like 3 weeks or so..

Re: Need Help/Advise on project planning..
Talk to the people who will be doing the work for you, and follow their advice. It's kinda nerve-wracking dropping an engine into a freshly-painted truck, but some painters don't like masking motors and underhood stuff.
I personally like to strip a project, mock everything up, then send it to paint. Reason is a couple of my builds got engine and suspension work, then never made it to the bodyshop because I couldn't deal with tearing them apart, again. |
