Junk yard find.

Today went to the Junk yard (in the snow lol)

Found a Guage cluster truck with the dash harness unmolested! yay! but..... after i pulled it out i got looking at the truck it was manufactured on 07/86.... making it an 87 EFI if i'm correct? will he harness work in y 84 350 that i want to swap guage cluster into? every thing looks to be the same... for the $5 bucks i payed for it i'm not going to complain. thanks

Also the interior was A dark Chocolate brown (is this factory?) Looked really nice.

It is possible that manufactured date is 86 but look at the VIN an see if it says 87.

The only difference I can think of off the top of my head is that if your old cluster had a choke light on the speedo, it may have check engine text now instead because of the fuel injection on the 87 truck you pulled it from, but should function the same to my knowledge. My 87 is using a cluster from an earlier year vehicle and reads "Choke" instead of check engine and works fine.

Could be a very late '86 model carbureted truck.

I don't believe we started the '87 model year until August/September. In fact, some powertrain combinations were later than that because the EPA was backlogged with the emissions certification testing.

7/86 would still be an 86. Usually new year models were September at earliest, usually October though. Every once in a while they get weird on it, like the "88" model trucks actually came out between 2/87 and 4/87 if I remember, Keith would probably know more exacts if he'd chime in.

And... speak of the devil, spooky huh? LoL

When you say your original cluster only had warning lights did you mean like the one in the image on the bottom right? Then picked up a cluster with the actual volt/temp/oil pressure gauges from the wrecker?, Check to see if the printed circuit papers on the back are the same, your gauges may only work if the proper senders are installed. If that's what you're asking.
