Wheel setup question *first post, just joined*
What's going on guys .. I have been a fan of this site for a long, long time but until last Sat I just didn't have a truck so I never registered.
I am now the proud owner a 69 short step frame off project a guy was working on and couldn't finish. I have a nice 69 Big Block just waiting to go in it. I'll post build pics as soon as I can. I have a question about wheel / tire setup. What do you guys run on the SWB step trucks? I think you can get more tire under a fleetside as I have read (?) Just need some help with the offset and wheel / tire combo. I'm thinking 18's all the way around, or possibly 18/20. I like a little tire and I'm not sure 20's would leave enough sidewall for my personal taste. Any suggestions? Maybe some pictures with wheel / tire size and what backspace you're running? I like the Coys wheels, Boss 338, Rocket, etc. Thanks in advance. |

CC69Rat,... Welcome to the Board.
I also own a stepside truck. Mine is a '70 model. You can definitely get more wheel and tire under the fender of a fleetside bed. My question is: What suspension mods to you have planned? If you are looking at just a stock suspension, or a static drop,... the wheels can hang outside of the rear fenders or flush with the fenders. If you plan on bagging it,... that's a total different story with those narrow rear stepside fenders. Have you looked in the 67-72 Message Board area? There should be a few "show us your stepside" threads. Again,... Welcome! |

I'm looking at a 4/6 static drop. From what I can tell, that's seems to be the norm from other posts and signatures as to how I'd like mine to sit. I want the truck to look low and lean but not so low I can't drive and enjoy it. I'd like to tuck the tires under the wheelwells a bit.
I'm still feeling my way around the site. I'll definately check out the Message Board. You guys are great! I should have joined a long time ago. |

I suggest lowering your truck first.
And then you'll have the exact dimensions to order your wheels. |
