I have a question about paint!

I have an 86 swb silverado, with a few dents and I was wondering how much it would cost to get small dents from door dings, and a dent in my door and fender (hit a pole) pulled out, they're kind of big and my door rubs my fender when I open it. And how much on top of that would it cost to get it painted, I want a flat black with gloss flames or reverse! If anyone has pics of this, please post them(: thanks!

This answer varies wildly, depends on the quality of the job you want and what your expectation and use of the truck is (if you are using the truck everyday it doesn't make sense to put a 4k paint job on it. A few small dents would be worth buying a dent puller and try fixing them yourself. If the fender has much damage on it I would junk it and buy an new one. They are cheap enough so that much time spent on body work would be wasted. On doors just have to evaluate if it is worth the body work time or get another one or reskin it.

Photos of the damage would help if you really want some ball park guesses. Otherwise, your guess is as good as mine since I can't fathom the extent of the injuries.

Re: I have a question about paint!

You can buy a dent puller at almost any auto parts store.

That looks really nice!! I was expecting bigger dents. The smaller ones could probably be just filled and the paint feathered to match as close as possible. The fender to door one coupld probably be pulled out to an extent, filled and paint feathered in to match. Would be worth a try, but from my experience it's hard to do for a novice and might be worth getting an estimate from a shop.

Thanks, I wish I knew where to find emblems for my fenders, and the tailgate strip that says Chevrolet haha, and a sport back bumper with brackets! If I could get pics of the flakes in it, I would! My phone just wont capture it. It has rainbow flakes in it, mostly blue. The paint on my truck is chipping everywhere, and you can see there is black paint under it. it gets worse and worse every time I go to and come from work :(

Take it to a couple of shops and get some estimates. You're not going to gain anything asking on here unless you have the pics you posted with estimates from shops to support the estimate they've given you.

My advice would be to stop running into things, those aren't "door dings" at the bottom of your door.

Re: I have a question about paint!

I got one on mine a couple of years ago that was about the same (a few small dents and no rust) it was 2,500.00. That was not at a well know shop and i would expect the quality to be about average. Definitly not a show truck, but would look nice and last a long time with care. By the way what state, or country do you live in?

Re: I have a question about paint!

You could always look at junk yards for the parts you listed (those are hard to find in good shape). Check the vendors on this site, LMC Truck and other parts sites that sell parts for our trucks. I find a lot of parts on Craig's list also.

I live in Texas! I only paid a little more than 2500 for my truck, and theres no rust on this one; Just mud! And you think I should just get a dent puller to see what it can do?

Re: I have a question about paint!

On the right door I'm seeing about a 7 hour repair, on the right fender I'm seeing about 5 hours. The one dent I can make out on the bedside is just a 2 hour dent, the rest of the little dents I'm guessing just don't show up. You can pretty much figure 1 hour for a small dent though. No idea what your areas rate per hour is, here it is $45 door rate.

Re: I have a question about paint!

There's only one way to learn and that's to research it and try. Go slow, easy and take your time and I'm sure you can get a positive result and don't expect professional results if you are a novice. Seems like I mess up more than I fix the first time I try something new, expecially body work.

Re: I have a question about paint!

Yeah, the small dents don't show up! I just wish my truck was straight, don't we all though? haha. and 45 $ I may take the panel off, could i just push the dent out from the inside of the door and fender ? i Could just take the door off, and fender and take it to a shop, I imagine it would be cheaper than having him take it off.

I wish I could have told this to the guy that I bought it from! Sad to see them treated this way :(
