Hey out there
I want to lower my 1966 chevy step side this spring and i want to get one of those kits or just get the drop spindles and drop shocks and cut the springs. To save a little money cause times right now suck!!! I try to do one thing a year to her last year i put flame throwers and this year i want to lower her. And i was wondering if anybody knows where to get the good, but cheap (price wise) parts?? I looked at a place called classicparts.com and the drop spindles were cheaper $209.95 then lmc $299.99 and a lot of the other companies, out there same with the springs. Any help would be great thanks!!!!

Just cut the front springs and put jeep springs on the back. Ebay has spindles for about 200 I don't think you'l get them cheaper. Check the parts on here. Someone might have some.

Thanks for the help daverod, but what year make and model jeep? And how much drop do you get cause i am looking for 4 inches in the rear that is as far as you can go without c-notching the frame? And do you have to buy special brackets for the jeep springs or do they bolt right in??

Just type in jeep spring and do a search. I forget what year. They cost about 20. No bracket.

Do you already have disc brakes on the front? All dropped spindles out there require disc brakes so you have to add that into the total cost. As for the drop, there are 2", 2.5" and 3" ones depending on what disc brakes you have (1" rotors or 1.25" rotors).

My '65 had 3" dropped springs (Ground Force) and I had almost no travel so it bottomed out the arms all the time. Pulled them out and put 2" dropped spindles and cut a set of stock springs 3/4 of a coil. It came out to the same 3" drop but rode WAY better and I don't bottom the arms out anymore.

Yes chevy mike i do have disc in the front not sure what size though when i bought the truck they were already on there and i wanted to go with 2 1/2 inch drop spindles and 2 inch drop coils would they be too much?? Cause when i measured the truck on level ground the inner part of the wheel wells the front sits an inch higher so i thought that would even things out cause i want to drop her 4 inches in rear it will just sit a 1/2 inch higher in front but it won't be that noticeable.

Okay, cool. BEFORE you buy spindles, you MUST find out what rotors you have as you have to buy the spindles that will match that style of rotor. The spindles do not interswap so if you have the 1" type rotors and buy spindles for a 1.25" rotor, you will be SOL as they won't work. Likewise the other way.

Figure out your rotors first.

I think a 4" drop would be a good drop for a '66. enough to notice, but if done right, not enough to be a burden for you if you still use it as a 'truck'. I've had everything from 2" drop to laying frame.

switchblade those springs are 99-2004 jeep TJ rears and dropped my truck about 4" got mine for free look around the 4x4 shops for pull offs

FWIW, I did 2 1/2 drop spindles in the front, w/ 2" dropped front coils, and 4" drop in the rear. I wouldn't want to go much lower if you plan on hauling anything. I picked up about 800-1000 pounds of crap in the bed last weekend, and it handled fine and didn't bottom.

I am running 4 inch drop rear and 2.5 and 2 drop springs front. I am just above the scrub line... like maybe 1/4 inch he he .. Looks killer though and the 17 inch with the low pro tires give a great look.

if you want to cut a set of front springs I have a pair you can have. Just cover the shipping costs and they're yours. They're just taking up space in my storage unit and if I can't find someone who can use them I'll just end up scrapping them

I'm also lowering my 65 short-step and now am wondering whats the best for the back? The 99-04 Jeep springs or the 4" drop springs from CPP?

Skip the jeep springs.
Buy the correct drop springs for these trucks and keep your load carrying capabilities.

It was very hard for me to find new u-bolts, small lumber yard ordered them, cost about $25. Not yet installed.
