speedometer problem
okay, i recently purchased a 2000 suburban for my parents, all of the gauges except for the speedo work, and the trans doesn't shift into 2nd till after 4k rpm's and won't go into 3rd or 4th, i'm thinking these issue's are related, cause if the computer doesn't know how fast you are going, it won't know when to shift. Does anyone have a fix for this problem? i have already replaced the VSS

Re: speedometer problem
the gage will not cause that. you can buy reman clusters from advance auto parts for about 300 dollars. or by the rebuild service on ebayfor like 100 that you send them your cluster and they rebuild it and send it back to you. but i've had several come though my shop this week that the speedo is broke and it makes no differance on how it drives. you can take the whole thing out and drive and it wont brother it.

Re: speedometer problem
The shifting problem with the transmission sounds like the PCM isn't getting a signal from the VSS. I would scan for codes and see what comes up, I would think it would throw a code with the transmission shifting like that!

Re: speedometer problem
purple w/white stripe wire was ripped in 2, saudered it together and now have speedometer, and also have 3rd and 4th, and trans shifts right, i knew they had to be related

Re: speedometer problem
My 99 is doing the same thing and I replaced the vss and it didn't work. What wire, where is it, what does it control?

Re: speedometer problem
Look at the wiring at the VSS sensor, A broke or shorted wire is generally near the plug.
