Re: Project X

the camper special sat in a field untouched for 17 years... biggest reason its so rusty.
Got the intake cleaned, Man it was nasty, Worked on it in the parts washer for 2 hours with dental tools getting all the crud off, got the back on, New side gaskets and couple of beads of right stuff sealant on the chinawalls to stop any end leaks and just waiting on the exhaust manifolds to get here today to finish it off so I can drop it in.

Note the nice new China made exhaust manifolds... I was pissed cause the Ebay ad said they had the heat shield, and when I got it ...It didn't , so I tried chatting with a rep online and he kept telling me it never said that , even after I gave him the link AND quoted the exact phase from the ad, so I told him screw it, I'll wait 7 days and leave negative feedback. I really didn't care it was not on there , its just the fact that is stated it came with one.

Bell housing after a couple of hours with wire brushes and a dental pic. Painted with Cast Aluminum paint

Cast Iron paint

I like this cast Iron paint, It matches almost perfect with the brand new Manifolds
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...e/IMG_0296.jpg
Just about ready to swing in
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...e/IMG_0299.jpg
New clutch and pressure plate.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...e/IMG_0301.jpg
Nice clean bell housing
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...e/IMG_0303.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...e/IMG_0305.jpg And she's in.. It was a pain trying to get the trans lined up with the bellhousing, So I'm back and forth under the truck trying the get everything line up Then I see the frigging transmission isn't even bolted to the crossmember...RRRRRR After a few choice words I got a bolt in the trans mount and lowered the jack from the front of the trans and it slipped right in....

but if u look it has the dipstick on both sides

what year vehical did they come in??? i spent hour at the parts house looking for one and we ended up taking 2 cork ones and making it work but i need the info for later so i can get the right one

benoit454 01-27-2011 09:32 PM

Re: Project X

doesn't look lik ehis block has it for both though. my fel-pro kit where it has the cork ones has them setup for both sides, but I'm not sure on my 88 one piece gasket.

his block looks to me like DS dipstick only so that's pre 80.

Re: Project X

sorry i meant it has the holes for the dipstick on both sides

Re: Project X

Felpro Oil Pan Gasket Set

Part No. OS34510T

Advance auto, Set even comes with New bolts cause the original ones are prolly too short. Hold on to your wallet though its about 30 bucks. but order online, and chose to pick it up at the store and use DEALIO as the discount code, Pay online and just take your print out to the store and pick it up. That block is a 1978 target master 4 bolt. assembled in flint , not Mexico like the Newer 80 and up blocks. Fired her up today , Now I just have to put the rest of it back together.

Re: Project X

Well I had a old holley 650 DP someone had hacked the choke horn off of it ran good on the truck, but I see a guy on Craigslist with a holley 2 d projection system, asking for trades., Called him up and told him what I had , and he took the carb and 250 for the system ..lol In the process of installing it now.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...e/IMG_0349.jpg he never even bothered to take it off the manifold..LMAO but its just a old cast iron EGR manifold., Nothing special.
