? on doors nos or not
Hi, Was just wondering if you can tell the difference from GM and aftermarket parts. I just picked up a set of doors for my 77, the guy bought them from GM a bunch of years ago, but never used them, and I was wondering if GM stamps there doors some where? not that I'm to worried about it, they seem very well built, nice and thick, and look to be dead straight. I also got some fenders and cab corners from lmc and they seem like very nice parts.

What kind of markings are on them? Most of the import doors have a company logo stamped in them thats obviously not GM.

Re: ? on doors nos or not
on most aftermarket doors you'll normally see wrinkling where the inner part of the door transitions from horizontal to vertical right by the door lock. The '77-'87 door toolings are some of the oldest tools in the aftermarket. The doors are normally useable but not perfect.

Re: ? on doors nos or not
I'm looking for a replacement passenger door for my 84. Here is what I've come up with:
The OEM door on my truck now ( it's all original) has spot weld dimples on the door handle side, that is where the outer skin folds over the inner shell. This is from the belt line down to the bottom. These dimples are on the back side, in the door jamb area, of course. I hope this explains it clearly. I have a set of aftermarket doors, for another project I have going ( plow truck) and they are smooth in this area. Sometimes, ( with the aftermarket doors) alignment can be a real challenge. |

Re: ? on doors nos or not
well, I went and looked them over, there are no stampings at all.... they also have the extra support on the inside for the door handle, and also one for the vent glass ( I've seen really cheap ones with out the extra support) they have very minor wrinkles like top banana said, but there about the same as the factory ones on the truck, and they also have the edge spot welded in places? One thing I noticed there is no drip seal around the edges, so not sure about that. But its pretty minor.
So I have no idea there origin, I guess we will find out when I bolt them on for a trial fit prior to paint to find the quality. Thanks for the input |
