Electric pump, stock tank
Where do you guys that run an electric pump and a stock tank mount the pump? and how do you route the fuel line to the carb? I'm not happy with the way mine is all set up right now and am looking for suggestions, examples, etc.
I don't list what I did just to get all opinions, mine may match yours. Thanks. |
Well, you should mount the pump close to the tank since they "push" the fuel as opposed to "pulling" it like a mechanical pump. Since you have a stick tank, anywhere under the cab would work since it'll be below the tank. Hence, gravity will keep the pump inlet supplied with gas. I've got mine wired to a slightly hidden toggle switch. Kind of a theft prevention measure (as long as they don't find the switch!)

Slammed67,
How did you route the fuel lines to the carb? Up the back, front in stock location, and where did you go from hard-lines to rubber? |
I mounted the pump on the frame under the cab, then used the stock steel line to the engine compartment, from that u turn up to a regulator on the inner fender I used that good weatherhead braded fuel line from napa, then from the reg over to the carb I used the same weatherhead stuff. Never had a problem.

I did a similar setup in a different vehicle, but the theory would be the same. As slammed67 mentioned, under the cab would be the best location (under tank, gravity feed, and less noise in the cab). I ran rubber lines from tank to pump, braided steel lines from pump to carb, especially underneath the vehicle for protection.
As far as up the back or around the front, it all depends on how you want it to look. sleek and tidy, or chromed and cool stainless hoses galore!;) |
I ran mine behind the engine, then over to the frame. It's kind of hard to see below, but it's the only good picture I have of it. Oh, mine's all braided stainless hose from the carb to the tank.

well I ran my electric fuel pump right underneath the tank in the frame, and just ran it up to the carb.. and I ran my line in the frame and up to the front of the engine... Works Fine for me but just about a month ago my electric fuel pump decided to quit working but I am going to finally get around it and buy a new one this weekend so I can drive my truck again...(Having withdrawals of not being able to drive my 68... oh well I still have my 02 Z28 to drive but it is not the same)
