What is difference between Custom and CST?

I have a 1968 Custom C10, and I notice a lot of references to CST,
but not Custom. What is the equipment differences and what years
are involved ?

Re: What is difference between Custom and CST?

I know the CST package had more options in it than the Custom. I have a 69' shortbed custom and would like to know what a CST of that year had versus the custom as well. I can tell you (that in 1969 at least) the custom comfort and convenience package consisted of:

- Bright metal rear rear window molding
- Vent Window and windshield molding
- Cigar lighter
- Control knob trim
- Custom Emblems
- Color keyed floor mat
- Special insulation
- Door trim Panels
- Full depth foam seat with fabric upholstery

I believe the CST had all of that plus:

- Wood grain lower molding and tailgate band
- Rear cab light (Starting in 1970)
- CST emblems
- Headliner
- Custom Vinyl seat

There is propably more but that is all that I know of.

In '68 CSTs had carpet and a different seat cover. The horn button was flashier,to name a few things.

Here's a pic of a CST equipment list that maybe you can compare with your C10. I believe the main difference is interior and exterior trim. (CST had wood grain in and out) possbily a few other things

Re: What is difference between Custom and CST?

The Custom and CST trim was an option in it's self. The differences won't be in the additional options. 69/70s offered more on CSTs over Customs than 67/68. In '67 bucket seats came in all CSTs

Re: What is difference between Custom and CST?

Apologies for the thread revival but this question nailed it right on the head regarding the same question I had about the CST vs. Custom trim designation.

So from what I understand here, the SPID designation Z84 CUSTOM SPORT TRUCK could mean either a CST or a CUSTOM...?

My SPID shows the exact trim and info(other than the color) of Custom1970's pic but my door has the CUSTOM emblem on it.

Also, when I look up the trim pieces on LMC or other genuine parts sellers' sites, the CST is designated more often than not as a 1968 trim piece.

Would it be safe to say that a 67-68 would have the CUSTOM and the 68-72's would have the CST's...?

Re: What is difference between Custom and CST?

mac808 . You might be right about the years 67-68 and more CST
equipped later trucks.
I have seen a couple of CST badged 68s but did not list the
trim levels.
My truck, a 68 does not have a SPID, but has:
Rubber floor mats.
Cloth bench seat.
Chrome trim around windshield and rear glass.
Aluminum center buttons on control knobs.
Plain horn button.
Arm rests and padded door panels.
And of course the "Custom" door emblems.

Your truck is definitely a Z62 Custom comfort trim level.

Re: What is difference between Custom and CST?

For 1968 here is a custom Z62 trim level package
1968 chevrolet truck
Z62 Custom Comfort and Appearance Option

Full depth foam seat with color-keyed fabric/vinyl trim
vinyl floor mat
Embossed vinyl door trim panels with bright upper retainers
LH and RH full-depth armrest
Parking brake ratchet cover
Cigar lighter
Chevrolet name plate for dispatch box door
Cowl insluation
Full underbody sprayed mastic coating
Bright metal windshield moldings, venti-pane frames, rear window mloding
Control knob inserts
Custom emblems

For 1968 here is a Z84 trim level package
1968 chevrolet truck
Z84 CST Custom Sport Truck

Full-depth foam seat with color-keyed deluxe two-tone all-vinyl trim
Color-keyed carpeting
Embossed vinyl door trim panels with bright upper retainers
RH and LH full-depth armrest
Parking brake ratchet cover
Cigar lighter
Chevrolet name plate for dispatch box door
Cowl insluation
Full under body sprayed mastic coating
Chrome front bumper
Bright metal windshield moldings, ventipane frames. rear window molding
Control knob inserts
CST emblems
Pedal trim
Could also have the A50 bucket seats option
In short CST's had carpet floor, chrome front bumper, And they could also have the A50 bucket seat option.
Z62 custom comfort did not have the A50 bucket seats.

In 1967 all CST's had A50 bucket seats and in 1968 the CST option came with either A50 buckets OR Z52 full depth bench seat.

In 1967 it took Z61 appearance and Z62 comfort to be a custom. In 1968 the Z61 and Z62 package was combined into the Z62 custom comfort and appearence package now called custom comfort Z62.

I don't know for sure much about the 69 and 70's, but they were similar to the the 1968 packages. Also these are TRIM LEVEL packages.
Hope this helps some:) here is a good website to get info from http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-h...tion-kits.html

Just checked GM heartiage for 1967 and in 67 you got the deluxe horn cap with the Z84 CST OR the Z61 custom appearence package. And in 1968 no deluxe horn cap is listed anywhere. Rock on Brad:metal::cool:, Thanks for the info, I learned something new.:) Thanks again.

bruceman1968.
Thanks for in depth info, particularly the
link to gmheritagecenter.
The only further question I have is ,
what are "cowl insulation" and "venti-pane frames" ?

Re: What is difference between Custom and CST?

I found on the back of my Custom badges on my 'burbs they have CST stamped in them. Are all 'custom' badges stamped CST on the inside or just CST equiped trucks?

There's a question for you guru's who know you're badges :D

venti pane frames are vent window frames. The triangle vent windows in the door window. It means they are chrome.

Cowl insluation is that fiber matt (sorry don't know the correct term) insluation. It's behind the dash on the cowl/firewall area.

My Custom badges are also stamped both Custom and CST and date stamped 1967.
I'll bet all are that way.

Also I have insulated cowl, I think called "Jute"
but the vent frames are painted black.

Re: What is difference between Custom and CST?

8door, your vent window frame should be chrome. Maybe the PO painted them.

Started to say maybe they were painted but something told me to go check them ,so went out to my shop and looked:lol:
Guess what they are chrome. I have had this truck for a very long time and it has been apart, I just got confused.
Now I'm getting enough info that I can have a SPID printed up and feel
accurate about it.

Whoa! Glad that I brought this old topic up again! Stirred up a lot of reaction and even better, in depth answers!

Thanks to all the guru's that replied!

bruceman~
Thanks for the clarification. I definitely have the CST and my truck is badged incorrectly with the CUSTOM emblem.

8door~
Yours, on the other hand, sounds like it is badged correctly and may very well be a Z62 CUSTOM option, just like bruceman says. I'm curious to see the back of my badges when I change them out.

Mac, Glad this helps ya, that makes all the typing worth it.:)
Quick question, So your SPID says Z84 custom sport truck, and the VIN on the SPID matches the VIN on your cab. Right? I think that's what your sayin and if so, then yes you do have a CST no matter what the door badge says.
No need to be in any hurry to see the back of your badge. Here's a custom badge and it says both CST and Custom, 1967

Glade you did bring this up again.:chevy:
For those of us that are restoring back to original, or the hot rod guys that might want to see what they had, this info is great to know, even if you strip the trim off, pass it on somebody could use it.
