project update

The last wire is in. not fastened down but its in. its break time now. last time I posted I was still putting the motor in. which was last fall. I have been slowly rewiring under the hood. today the last wire went in and I still wasnt sure it was going to work. Well I thought what the h*ll I put the key in and turned it and the motor spun. Man did it sound great to hear again. Nothing like the sound of a motor with the exhaust stopping at the manifolds to make you cream yourself. after I finally got the ignition to fire I dumped some gas in the carb and turned it over. SUCCESS? sort of. it fired and ran until the carb went dry again. I put some more in and turned it again. SUCCESS? nope not yet. fuel pump sat so long the diaphram rotted in it. DOH. I would say it really sucks. but in this case it doesnt and thats the problem. so basically autozone is getting a call tomorrow to price the fuel pump since I dont have a spare. Then it should be all set. all my guages and lights are getting power even the radio came on. some idiot forgot to turn it back off and damn did they have it loud. musta been the wife... :D. so Im a little farther. at least I heard the rumble of a good small block firing again. Im tired of the ford sound. I see it running in the next couple weeks. I'll let everyone know when it does.

ok new update!!!
fuel pumps on my god you would not believe the crud that came out into the filter the first time it turned over. thank god for see thru filters. now i know I have to clean it out. I know its getting gas now though. I put the key in turned it over and BOOM. SUCCESS AT LAST. oh it sounded good after waiting all winter. thank god for no close neighbors. WORD OF ADVICE!!! dont start the truck and rev it up with a 3 year old sitting in the seat when there is no exhaust on the truck. poor little guy was holding his ears and screaming his head off. give him 10 years and he'll be saying come on dad it needs to rumble. but at least the old thang runs again. and I found out I know how to rewire a truck from scratch. I would like to take a moment now to give those guys who wire those things for a living credit. they have a tough job on theyre hands. now I just have to run the wires through the loom and Im all done. I found a cool chrome loom at autozone today which is that split tubing stuff that they use except chrome I think Im going to go with that. the chrome on black should look sharp. if anyone needs any help on wires let me know. I can possibly help. well now I have to go do all the fine tuning and bolting down of the little stuff just thought I would come in and let everyone know IT RUNS!!!!! not only runs but RUNS GOOD.:D:D:D:D
