Steering column question

I am thinking of putting tilt steering in my 59 but see that the columns come in different lengths. Does anybody know off hand what the length of a stock 55-59 column is? and is it wise to get a shorter column if going with a tilt?

Thanks for help in advance! :truck:

Re: Steering column question

I used a 30 inch tilt column and I like the fit. I have a mustang 2 suspension in my truck and I change my dash and that made me a bit nervous about the column (not the suspension but the dash swap). but Cal58GMC has a camaro subframe suspension and a stock GMC dash I believe he also used a 30 inch tilt column.

32" in mine. Leaves room for adjustment. Also put it through the firewall higher then original on my camaro subframe. Mines a 59.
