57 Step Side
 

Bought a 57 3100 in very good shape with 327 4 speed which i was going to change to automatic.Truck had stock suspension no power steering which was great on the highway untill you had to park it in town.One thing lead to another and i wound up pulling the frame out,sold the engine,trans and wheels.Started to fab up a frame my first and finally got to the point of welding it all together this weekend.

Thanks ,what I'v been getting used to is the fact when you start welding fabricated steel parts together is that the heat warps the crap out of everything.Using tube steel doesn't help much either since it has all the tension stuck in the steel so as soon as you cut it,it starts to unbend.It's a learning experience to say the least.........

Thanks but don't you mean Alot of Work,its nothing like that show were they build a car in seven days.You don't realize how time consuming it is until you start a project.

Custom tank installed today,waiting on wheels so i can install engine and trans so i can weld up the trans mount and then break it down for the powder coater.

I know you thought of this, but will the tank be off the ground with the axles bottomed out? Eye balling the axle at the top of the notch it appears like it will be close. Nice work, just an observation. I spent a lot of time with my tank worring about approach angles when transitioning from flat to slopes and it doesn't hang down that low.

The photo is deceiving ,i lowered the shock mounts which are lower then the top of the notch itself so the axle could never hit the frame.The deepest tank i could use is 10" for it to work without hitting.Once i get the wheels on it i'll find out how much room i'll actually have to play with and if i can keep the shocks in the lowest holes or if i have to raise them.

What front spindles are you using, are the 73-87 or GM car

The spindles came in the kit from No Limit Engineering,i know there not a drop spindle,but thats about all i know about them.

Dang that frame is sweeeet!!! I think you may be fibbing about this being your first frame build right? where did you start? just measuring off of stock frame or what??? That makes me want to dump mine and start all over.:banghead: But seriously that is very nice work..:thud:

Yes it'smy first frame i ever built and i just matched the old frame and made a few changes from other builds that i'v seen on the different forums and professional builders.I'll have to say you can pick up alot of information on these forums which you have to thank everyone that shares information and photos from their builds.You can also avoid some first time mistakes from what others have done.Not to mention that these trucks i would consider to be a basic build or a beginners build since its only two straight rails with a few crossmembers.Theirs alot of talented guys on this board that do metal body work that is incredible,taking a body that anyone else could only junk and bringing it back to show quaility.

Thanks, trans is going to be better then before you just put it into drive instead of shifting.We're lazy drivers!!!!
